Digitrax UT6D Throttle.

I have a UT6D that I have used about 9 months now, It worked perfectly for 5 to 6 months then I noticed on occasion when turning the speed knob it would either return to zero or may jump ahead several numbers. This happened a few times and now it has become more and more the norm, Of course when it returns to zero the train stops and when it jumps ahead the train speeds up a great deal. It does tis no matter the locomotive and does it on battery power or if it is plugged in.

Sounds like the contacts in the rotary knob

Are oxidized or worn out.  I’d email Digitrax.  They’re pretty good about fixing/replacing things.

(I probably shouldn’t make assumptions that you've already ruled out obvious stuff like next couple of posts.)

Encoders can and do fail.

. . .

Do you happen to have a second throttle. Sounds like two throttles controlling same decoder / engine.  If you are running a DCS52, could be the case.

There is also a firmware update for the UT6.

Encoders do not oxidize nor wear out after 6 months.

Sounds like "ghost" throttle

Happens when an address is not properly dispatched from a DT-series throttle.  How many DTs do you have?

If you can't figure out which DT is causing the problem, closing Op Switch 36 will clear the "stack" of addresses from all throttles.

How does the DT402D work as a radio throttle?  I have one but no operating layout at present so havent used it in a few years.

Clear slots

I'd try clearing all the slots and consists. It's possible its got wonkiness in the encoder, but I haven't heard of that particular problem with the UT6 series, so I'd guess you've got a locomotive acquired in multiple places.

Scott, thank you for the advise. I di have the same address in my DT402D, I dispatched it out and the UT6D works fine now. I am still a DCC novice so I completely forgot this step.
