Fuel cut-off

If I'm not mistaken, that is the emergency fuel cut off handle.

MEC #11?

Must be the MEC #11.

Only unit to have the square to the left side of the photo if that is what you are asking?

To the right is the sight glass. Above the sight glass is the location of the filler neck, I would imagine to the left of the photo is not fuel related and have been in conversation in the past with some fellow MEC historians. Some thought it was a cover that was not painted after being applied and is in red oxide primer. One guess was it was a mount to hold something specific for an area the unit operated in. I know it spent a great deal of time working out of Lewiston, ME.

Hello MEC fan and BR GP 30 2300

Thanks so much for the response. I know so little about #11.  Up until now, I was having little luck getting information on # 11.

possible emergency fuel cutoff? Thx BR GP30 2300

MEC fan. Thx for the additional  info.
that black vertical line indentation to the right is the sight glass. Does this indicate a fuel level sight? Just not savvy to know. Is the filler neck location obvious? Or just not visible in the photo?
so the Red vertical little thingy in question on the left has nothing to do with fuel?  So some historians say it was a mount for something or other. Wonder what? Spent time in Lewiston. Maybe I can look into Lewiston MEC historical society. Thanks for the lead.

Calling all MEC aficionados!

anyone else here able to fill the gap?

44 Tonner object

It has been a long time since I was around a real 44 Tonner, but that is a cover that you slide up and there is an emergency fuel cut-off pull cable behind it. The fuel fill is on the running board and is hidden by the curved sheet metal at the base of the cab.

Another mysterious thing in the photo

F2213C3.jpeg

Directly centered, below the two louvre doors there is a white or silvery square worn patch of some kind. It appears to be bolted on the engine.

might this be a builders plate?  The other MEC 44 T’s that I have seen in photographs don’t have this either.
might it have been an early G E builders plate? Or some other sign?

any guesses? So little info on this #11 available.

thanks.
