Well the first stages of the layout have begun. As you can see in the images, the layout room is done. The lower return loop is done and the staging is complete. The All of the wiring for the lower level is done, and working very well. I have runtrains over the rail forward and backward with no derailments. The only spot I have been able to find is on the #8 double cross over. The giude wheels of the steam engine will jump. I have to fix this, but it is not a major problem. And that is good.

Not shown in these pictures are the bginning of the the Helix which is nearing completion. Soon the second level will begin, and the yard for Bakersfield will begin after the mainline and temporary return loop on the second level is completed. Then I can atleast watch trains run as I am working. I think that will motivate me.

Anyway, there you go.

One serious project...

Dude,

You've bitten off a lot - and look to be chewing nicely. Getting the trains running can give you just a great shot in the arm of "I've accomplished something!"

Brings Back Memories

Great Job, Stipping on walls bench work, cork roadbed, It seems I have seen this before.  Where you are putting plywood on top of grids you do not need the 2 x 2s were the stingers attach to the out side frame.

Visit the Grande Pacific and look though the construction pictures.  http://www.grandepacificmodelrr.org

Keep up the great work.

Hey thanks.

I have been to your site often, and there are some great pictures especially the "how to" on the helix. I have had some real problems when it came to my helix. But it is finally underway.

I used the 2x2's because I am multidecking the layout. The 2x2's have several uses 1) to attach the framing to the wall (and the lower legs) 2) to have something to attach the back drop to 3) Because it is multideck, I will be able to run wires down behind the decks. 4) when I get the second deck started you will see that I am using carpenters squares for the support. I saw this in MR and I was very impressed with the support it provides. I will have this up and soon.

Keep em' on the rails.
