G'day Everyone,

I suspect the decoder is stuffed but I thought I might try the brains trust first to see if you can save me losing the sound and having to install a new decoder.

I have an Atlas Trainman (GOLD) HO scale GP38-2 loco which is fitted with QSI sound.  I normally run an NCE DCC system.

This loco, up until recently has been running well.  A few weeks back it would simply short out the DCC system when I turned it on (I do run PSX circuit breakers) and now it won't even do that.  It simply appears to be a dead-duck on the DCC system.

On the program track it comes us a not being able to read the CV.

Interestingly, it still powers up and runs on a DC test track.

I have checked all the wires and connections for any shorts or issues, but it appears to be clean.

I suspect the decoder is stuffed, but was hoping someone might have an idea on how to resurrect this model.

Thanks

Chris

Your decoder might be stuffed...

... But I believe that is the exact model that and decoder that Nick of NixTrainz designed the Decoder Buddy to replace.

So I would look at that as a possible way forward.

Thanks Jeff,

I got out the Power Cab to see if I needed a bot more juice to read the CV, and was able to get it back to a reset.  All working OK for now.

I should have done this weeks ago!

Cheers
