David Karkoski

This blog is somewhat self promotional but I think that the information shared will be both informative and entertaining.  My intention is to present techniques that I use when building models using a video format.

I have had many years of experience in building models but shooting and editing videos is completely new to me.  Listening to your own voice can be disconcerting when you are not accustomed to it. It is also challenging to keep your hands and work in the frame as you become absorbed in the build.  Please bare with me as I learn both shooting and editing skills.

My first videos are lengthy as I go into details on techniques.  As I move along in the presentations I will reference those earlier segments if you need to review the specifics. Any new techniques will be done in detail.

I plan on building a variety of models.  From simple kits, to complex scratch building in wood and styrene.

Scratch building can be intimidating as there are no or limited instructions and invariably construction paths will be followed that lead to dead ends.  Hopefully they won’t be project killers but sometimes you do need to rethink the process entirely.  When that happens in these videos I will explain the reasoning behind the modified approach.

I really enjoyed your video

Hi David, There is nothing worse for me than watching a shaky, blurred video on anything. Your video was rock steady and very enjoyable. Loved your track work, including joint bars, no less! Great work.

Now, how about sharing with us how you built that superb loading dock. Was it a kit or scratch-built?

Pretty decent video. You might want to experiment with the volume control some. I had my computer volume up to about 95 and the video control turned up some too.

Normal is computer control is around 30-45 and video is way down and sometimes almost off.

I'll echo Lyndon's comment about asking how you built the dock and add in how about the one behind the box car also.

Thanks for sharing,  Jack

Changed link

Sorry everyone.  I had intended to use a link to a play list showing the entire build of the loading dock.  The link has been changed.

So much for a flawless start, just like scratch building!

I'll put the link here as well

How do you get rid of the embedded link ?

Any suggestions on removing it or having the new link embedded?

Embedding a playlist

To embed a playlist, go to the playlist on YouTube and select share> embed. Copy the code and paste it here in your post. Voila!

Thanks Joe

I gave it a try but do not find an embed option.  Is there a way to get rid of the embedded link above as about 80 viewers have gone there and not to the link to the playlist.  There are a total of 14 videos that make up the build and they are only seeing the last one.

More on embedding a playlist

Okay … it turns out Google has really turned playlist embedding into a mess. Here’s a video that gives you the secret now. Watch this video ALL THE WAY TO THE END to learn the secret.

I have a second video series completed.  It is composed of 17 videos covering the construction of a track workers dwelling.  The build is detailed so someone not familiar with scratch building will see what is involved.  Advanced modelers may also pick up a few pointers.

I will post a link to the first video in the sequence.  They follow in numeric order 01 thru 17.

Enjoy
