Here's an update from the developers on the failed forum upgrade attempt we made the weekend of Sept 25-26.

They have identified the problem

The problem with the upgrade is that the new forum after the conversion looked terrible with post content splattered all over the site breaking out of the post boundaries, making it look ugly and extremely difficult to read.

The developers have indentified the cause -- basically the latest version of their conversion code broke the new forum's HTML formatting, making things look very ugly.

They're fixing their code and going to run a new test with the data from midnight Sept 24-25 and once they get a new conversion that works, then I want to make sure I have finally fixed all the timestamps on here, and then we will run another test conversion to see that the posts indeed maintain the proper order on the new site.

In other news, there was a BBCode error that was identified with our forum testing that has also now been fixed. More about that in the next post.

VIDEO BBCode error fixed

Here's the ticket I filed for this bug ...

Quote:

When I post ...

http://sample_url.com

And it's an auto-embed video like from YouTube, I still have the tags showing as text, which is just plain ugly.

If it's a video that doesn't auto-embed like from Rumble, I get this as text in the saved post:

https://rumble.com/vk4duk-pwm-frequency-test-of-real-model-trains.html

Again, the video tags do nothing and they still show, which is quite ugly. It appears to me your BBCode does nothing and is quite worthless. Either remove it from your docs or get it working as advertised, which means the tags themselves should go away in the final post, since they're behind-the-scenes special markup code.

And here is their reply to me yesterday ...

Thanks for being patient while we sorted this out. I am glad to tell you that the reported BBCode issue has been fixed now. Please take your own time to review this.

Here's an example of the broken conversion formatting ... followed by how it should look.
