New site status

As far as the status of the new site … we’ve locked it with a forum secret password to keep folks out.

We’re currently doing a new test conversion that’s going to be running for the next two days.

Once we do give the green light, likely by this Wed or Thu, it’s still just a sandbox and not the real converted site yet.

As a sandbox if we decide things look good and we elect to start the real conversion this Friday evening at 11pm Pacific, everything you’ve done in the sandbox new forum will be deleted and replaced.

Once again when the conversion starts on Friday, we will lock the new forum with a forum password and all login attempts will fail with errors.

Without us giving the green light, if you do try to login and it looks like it’s going to let you in, you will eventually encounter a “forum password” challenge that will ask you to enter a secret forum password that only we know.

That’s to keep you out until we give the green light.

Part of the problem with the conversion was people logging in and starting to make posts while we were still in mid conversion.

We had to put a stop to that with the secret forum password. If you get the forum secret password challenge, then the forum's not ready, so just wait until we say it is ready.

Once the new forum is ready for business, we will remove the forum secret password.

Speaking of a password...

Will my current one with this forum work, or will I need to create a new one?

I pity you, Joe. This has gotta' be a hair puller.

Passwords on the new site

When we copy your account over to the new site, we can see everything but your password, which is encrypted. So your account on the new site has a blank password.

Watch this three minute video to see how to deal with your first login when your password is blank ...

Thanks Joe!

I watched it, and I've downloaded it for future reference once this forum goes dead and the other is the only forum.

new passwords

If we have already set a password for the new forum during test-drive activity, will that password get preserved or re-blanked?

You can call me EW. Here's my blog index

Test drive is a total sandbox

The test drive is a total sandbox. Because people are testing things, a lot of junk gets built up, profiles get goofy, and so on. When we load for real, EVERYTHING gets deleted and it’s a total redo. We keep nothing because who knows what junk got added during testing? That means your test drive profile gets totally deleted. We keep nothing. The final real load is a total reset.
