I want to model the GMTX GP38-2's that CN are using in abundance.

I ordered the Athearn GMTX GP15.

I need to unfortunately take the knife to the back end roof and add two fans to simulate the GP38-2. Anyone know what manufacturer has the fans? Also any other details to add to make the model more authentic?

cheers,

GP15 to GP38-2

Brad, a GP38-2 is a far different locomotive than a GP15-1. One major difference is the GP15 is much shorter than a GP38-2. It also has low mounted radiator intakes whereas the GP38-2 has the radiators high on the side of the hood just below the roof, with a string of hood doors below said radiators. By the time you are done hacking at the GP15 you will need substantial repainting.

Would it not be more straight forward to get a Genesis GP38 in Conrail paint as a basis for doing the GMTX unit. Strip and repaint, rather than reconstruct and repaint? With a Conrail unit the handrails would be close to the right blue.

Just my thoughts,

Mike
