Planning your next layout, or want to redo your current one? The crew discusses some things that went well for them and things that did not go well. The voice of experience is a great teacher. What three things would you tell others to include or avoid?
We also have a new intro and our first sponsor. Blue Tubs!
Join the crew of Eric Boone, Thomas Gasior MMR, Mike Jordan, Luke Lemmens,  and  Ken Zieska.

Free advertising?

Doesn't a venture that collects money from sponsorships mean that you now need to pay to promote your podcast on here?

The MRH forum guidelines say ...

Quote:

Crowdfunding promotional links (e.g., Kickstart or Patreon) are also not permitted on the MRH site without permission, since that's also a form of advertising.

The general rule is if money can be changing hands, then it's advertising and not free on the MRH website.

We try to look the other way for a while

We try to look the other way for startup ventures, podcasts, and the like. Once your sponsorships exceed $50 per month, then you're now a commercial venture and reaching our audience is no longer free. We operate on the honor system, so we expect you'll be up front with us about crossing the $50 threshold.

Blue Tubs... It is a Joke

Quote:

We also have a new intro and our first sponsor. Blue Tubs!

Some people can not see the joke and it needs to be shoved in your face...  Blue Tubs is a joke about how people store model train stuff that they do not need under the layout in the Big Blue Tubs....

But we now know who Teachers pet is.

????? Since we apply the guideline to everyone, then everyone is a teachers pet.

This day and age, there’s a lot of small fry who are trying to make a few dollars with Patreon, etc. As long as the revenue is peanuts, we’re more interested in modelers getting useful info than we are in hassling every little guy trying to underwrite his podcast hobby with a few bucks.

It’s the real businesses who are trying to get a free ride that we’re more interested in keeping a close eye on.

But we now know who Teachers pet is.

But we now know who Teachers pet is.  As in the posters is going to Run to Joe and cry about something they know nothing about.   Blue Tub sponsorship is a joke.

I look at Blue Tubs poking fun of something like What is neat this week that is a sponsorship bonanza.

Teachers pet was in reference to the person complaining about the podcast and being so out of touch with reality to not realize that Blue Tub Sponsorship is a joke.

Seems you did not get it Joe,  Teachers pet is not the pod cast but the person that complained about the pod cast.  Saying that they have sponsors.  Unless something has changed this podcast does not have sponsors or ask for money it is FREE with no money changing hands.

If anything, complain about the 1 minute or more of music before the actual talking starts

Speaking in code

Okay, so you're speaking in code, Az. (waving my hand up over my head and making a swoosh sound) My wife does the speaking in code thing, too. Once she starts doing that and giving me funny looks, I just say ... "Okay, so you're speaking in code. How about some plain English without the hidden meaning, please?"

Really cool

Really cool podcast.

Ill second Bobs thanks. This group keeps it light, but actually spends the majority of the time talking about model trains. I came across this pod a few episodes back and now have gone back through all of them and listened to most multiple times.

@ danw, wow really? Nothing else to worry about? I bet your house is in perfect order.....

Thanks MEC fan. Plus I still don’t know the code

I ( We, the crew, which is growing) am glad more and more people are finding and enjoying our chats. The objective was to have a discussion about various model railroading topics that would sound like your best friends discussion after a operation session while having a beverage. We try not to get very serious, but will bring out points and advice that our many years of building layouts have taught us.

There are at least three more episodes loaded up ( One more in September and two for October)  which should come out every other Friday. We will continue to work to improve the podcast, and address the gripes, of which most have been about the intro. Our addition of “Sponsors” was to help with this weak spot and will continue as long as the creativity of the crew keeps writing comical advertisements. If we ever really did receive a paid sponsor, I’m sure we would check with Joe and not run afoul of MRH good graces.

We’d like to find out about advertising on those rotating banners on top of the forums.
Now, about that coded talk from Eric and  our Wives…

IRL an 'emoji goes here'

I forget that some of you are real real old and popular terms from the 80's might be too new for you.

But then I have no clue what my kids are talking about when everything is an emoji or short string of letters IRL

podcasts, sponsors, etc.

Have you considered making youtube videos instead? They have a larger audience and easy monetization path. It's a lot more interesting to see what folks are talking about than to just hear them....DaveB

Sorry and goodbye

Totally missed the joke. With all this vitriol for making a mistake and just asking a simple question, I don’t feel welcome on here any longer.

Goodbye. It’s been fun, but this forum is no longer a fun place.
