Ore Drag,

7_195120.jpg on the Pennsy. GP30 2203 lends a hand as the trailing power of a three unit lashup.  A few G39 ore jennies in tow received an exterior foam spray to help keep the ore load from freezing during winter months. Nicknamed "woolies" as they appear to be wearing sweaters. The experiment was basically a long term failure as the foam would later crack and peel/flake away.

Thank, Deemiorgos

Low angle views make the photo appear as it would from a trackside photographer's view. Most of my photos are like that. I see you achieved the look as well.

Greg Northern gets a Locomotive

Great stuff so far this week!

my home road Greg Northern acquired a former BNSF/BN SW1000. After a quick patch and some new markings this unit is ready for service.

LOL, probably a failure as a model too as most folks will just think you have a fungus growing on your hoppers :> ) ....DaveB

Bravo

Nice effort to reproduce the distinctive look of a PRR ore car! Here's a photo I took of a PC ore train heading empty into Philadelphia in 1974. A lot of drama on the old Main Line!

G39A "Woolie"

9_161441.jpg 9_161358.jpg 9_161632.jpg Here are a few Photos of the process to get a woolie. When the Stewert Ore Jennies were released it was a no brainer to me to try to model this version. I used woodland scenic ground foam and woodland scenic water fall goop. I made a mixture of the two materials. Then I applied a light coat of the goop, straight out of the bottle, to the panels to help hold the mixture when it was applied. I used a spatula to try and get a sprayed on look. Once dried I manually picked off some to represent the failing foam like the prototype. New letter board panels were applied on the raised ribs, painted, lettered and weathered it. The load represents raw ore dirt.  I also scratch built one of these cars in 1/29th large scale. Same materials and technique. It can be seen here.  https://www.angelfire.com/film/prrpics/GScaleore.html

PRRK4s958 No prototype Photos

C’mon PRRK4s958, no fair posting prototype photos and passing them off as models.  Great work!

Stan and Jim

This is Stan and Jim.  They come out here every morning to have coffee and try their luck pulling some fish out of the channel.  And yes, they may have committed a small misdemeanor by cutting back the fence to get to their favorite spot - not to worry, they have been doing this for years and always have a couple extra donuts for any coppers who might show up.

That is ingenious'.  I like the history behind the build'.  You certainly did a masterful representation of the prototype.  Excellent work and craftmanship'... BRAVO'''' for sure...

Thanks, Goober.

I wasn't even sure that technique would work. But as it went along, the painting and the final weathering pulled it all together the way I wanted it to.
