Hello, my grandfather passed away and I'm trying to sort through his model train collection. I can't seem to identify these two trains in the provided pictures. Both look to be brass locomotives. I have not removed from display case to look for markings but hoping someone can help without having to do so at this time. I believe these are G Gauge trains. I have identified a third as a PSC Brass Shay #15 but can't seem to find anything on these two. Thanks for your help.

Search starting-position

Dear ???

If you are sure they are Brass, I would reccomend starting your search at BrassTrains.com ,
specifically the "Brass Guide" page

https://www.brasstrains.com/BrassGuide/PDG/List/G-Scale-Steam/8.1

For the Top loco, use the following selections (LH menu bar) to narrow down the options
Sub-Category = "Non-Articulated"
Whyte = "0-6-0"

For the lower loco (the larger Class C Climax),
use the following selections (LH menu bar) to narrow down the options
Sub-Category = "Logging"
Whyte = "3-TRUCK"

I appreciate not wanting to open up the cabinet if not-required, but it will definitely help if you can get any closer images, and/or confirm any identifying marks, especially on the underside.

Best of luck!

re: Search starting-position

Thank you Prof Klyzlr. I'm going to take these out of the display to relocate them to my house, along with the rest of his collection. I was told they were Brass but I have not confirmed. I'll post photos as a follow-up with more details for those who are curious when I remove them from the glass.  He was a big LGB collector but these trains were never used in his indoor scene setup.

Thanks again,

Michael P

Dear Michael,

Sounds like a plan. When you get the further pics, you might find the following thread useful...

The PRR caboose and three

The PRR caboose and three truck Climax (the second picture) were made by Aster. Yes they are G gauge and very collectable. It appears to be electric though they also made live steam models of the Climax as well.
