Milt Spanton hosted an operation session in honor of Hans and his wife coming to the Twin Cities to visit. I was lucky enough to be invited and was the yardmaster in Proctor.

Hans got to run a DMIR Yellowstone up to ‘Da Range’ and back. Milt played gracious host, ore load filler/remover and answered a lot of “Hey Milt?” Inquiries about his amazing layout from the guests who had not operated there before.

Hans and his lovely wife joined all of us for some post ore dragging BBQ at a local roadhouse. Milt and I learned the proper pronunciation of Gogebic and Hans learned how to say Biwabik when we had an errant ore train take a different path to unswitched mines. ( I think Hans said it was GO-gee-bik )

Thank you Milt for hosting and it was wonderful to meet the man behind the amazing layout featuring ore roads/towns in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Iron Ore Mafia

As a Grainger Railroad modeler, I found operating big DM&IR Yellowstones with long strings of ore cars really enjoyable.  Milt's railroad is beautiful and a joy to operate.
