VSOTTO

I keep changing my mind about this.  I am building a rail-served oil/fuel distribution scene set in the 1960's in a semi rural location.  I'm trying to decide if this industry should have a security fence surrounding the property.  From an operations stand point, I think it's pretty cool that operators would need to stop at the perimeter to open and close the gate.  And I have the ability/skills to make the gate and the open/close mechanism .

But, would this type of industry typically have a security fence surrounding it in that time?  Modern time frame would be a no-brainer, just not sure what would be common in 1960's.

What's your opinion?  And best case, does anyone have a prototype photograph showing with or without fencing?

Thanks in advance!

In looking through photos,

In looking through photos, most from that area appear to not have been fenced. Most, but not all - here's an example labeled as 1950's (though the truck is much olders, so who knows...) with a fence in the foreground:

I’d say

it’s a 50/50 deal, semi rural means people nearby, fences keep out unwanted visitors. I’d go with a fence.

In the 50's

as a kid I explored many industries, all I can recall were unfenced. If we stayed out of the way most places didn't mind a kid looking around and seeing how everything worked( probably were a lot less lawyers in those days?). The right of way had some barb wire fences in spots but that was to keep cattle or horses off the tracks. ...DaveB
