Since the modeled portion of my layout depicts from New Windsor to Highfield, how to represent the eastern end where it connects to CSX was always problematic.  My layout is in a finished portion of my attic and there is a ten foot section where the roof is a 45 degrees down to a hip-wall.  Incorporating this into the layout was difficult.  I finally tackled the project and built a shelf along the wall with a lift-out section to be able to access the attic storage area.  ing_yard.pdf This shows the changes to the track plan where the staging yard goes off the layout and onto the new shelf.

yard%201.jpg This shows the shelf with the lift-out section so I can get to the attic door.  It is made from a piece of PVC siding.  This is dimensionally very stable and easy to cut.  It worked great for this purpose.  You can see the lift out section with the connectors for the track wiring as well as the wire I used to prevent sagging because of the 45 degree brackets I used.  It also shows my laptop and programming track.

yard%202.jpg This photo shows the brackets underneath the shelf as well as how I supported it against the attic door.  Finding 45 degree angles turned out to be harder than I thought.  These work but are bit more flexible than I wanted.

20layout.jpg This shows how the staging will enter the layout right before it crosses the lift-up bridge.  A lot more trees will go into the area around the two tracks to disguise the exit hole.  Overall the shelf seems to be very stable and it works fine so far.  Now I have two staging/ fiddle tracks to represent Emory Grove and that space in my layout room is now being used.  It will greatly enhance my prototype-based operations plan.

Staging

Very nice, staging can really help increase the operations and variety of trains.

Nice job on the scenery.

Clever

Well done. My train room has similar sloped ceilings so I know the challenges of working in a space like that.
