Mazatlan was a Super 7 and Dash 7 haven in the late 1990's.  If you want to model with a GE focus then Ferromex might be a good choice.  More here:  https://ageologistchasingtrains.blogspot.com/2021/07/mexico-mazatlan-1998-and-2000.html

I hear bells

The next frontier in sound decoders is they randomly shut down the engine sounds and you hear nothing but engine room alarm bells.  Every fan of older GEs needs that, plus SP, PC, and bankrupt-era Rock Island fans.....

GE reliability

I was always led to believe that GE quality and reliability was second to none.

I hope that is the case with their aircraft engines...

The late Dash 7 and much of

The late Dash 7 and much of the Dash 8 era was a period of experimentation and iteration that led to the Dash 9 level of reliability. No manufacturer's locomotives are perfect, but GE has been the best in the field for a long time now.

P.S. that FNM paint scheme is my favorite of all time!

NdeM/FNM for the GE win

Scott,

So true as for SP and the other roads on the northern side of the border, though I still have a soft spot for Espee U33C and B36-7s.Mexican outfits seemed to get more "bang for the buck" out of GE products than one could imagine. I have a photos of the Tepic, Nayarit yard stuffed full of C30-7s back in 2009 and Ferromex's recent repaint of B23-7 2501 into their executive scheme is one hell of a good looking engine.

Both FXE and Ferrosur are still getting mileage out these units, wish I was in San Luis Potosi to see what TFM/KCSdeM is up to with theirs now.
