I got this photo recently from a relative.

Written on the back it says: " Just righted after rollover timbers still connected".

It fell down, went thuck

The "timbers" appear to be blocks of wood used to protect appliances from the cables they used to pick it up and turn it wheels side down.  Looks like one is protecting the power reverse.

That totally makes sense

That totally makes sense Scott. Thanks. It looks like a CNR loco, but not with a familiar number. I don't know what year the photo was taken.

ACR Locomotive

While it looks like a CNR locomotive, I seem to recall that the Algoma Central Railway had two 2-10-2s that were virtual copies of the CNR T-4 class engines. I also think they were numbered #50 and #51. The twin sand domes look very much like a T-4. Take my vague memories for what they might be worth.

The timbers

are a trestle bent shaped assembly so probably for leverage so they can right it with a sideways pull. ( like standing on the hull of a capsized Hobie cat and pulling on the rope to right it) The base of the bent is bearing on the end of the axles which is probably the strongest spot on the side....DaveB

Looks like it derailed into a marshy wet area

I initially thought it might have been in a fire, but now I'm thinking mud.

Took a lot of clever people and some strong backs to recover a mishap like that.

Rollover timbers albeit on a bit more grandiose scale

it must have rolled upsidedown.
