I've got a prototype garage that I am modeling where they walled up one of the garage doors using unpainted particle board.  Naturally it has weathered grey in the lower parts of the wall exposed to the weather.  Looks pretty bad but would make a great model.  Any suggestions for modeling particle board in HO scale?  I've done a search and not found anything.

You may want to take a

You may want to take a quality photo of it to reproduce on paper. I’ve done that with various textures like insulbrick for instance. A photo editing software can come in handy.

I took your advice

I went to Google Earth and took a screen shot of the Auction Shed that I want to model.  Put it in Adobe Elements and after considerable trial and error, I ended up with something that looks like the particle board wall to put into my model.  We'll see how it prints on good photo paper and then apply it to the model.  Thanks for the advice.

Particle Board

I don't have any ideas to add, but I want to have a reference to this technique, so would appreciate if you share a photo of the finished model.

I noticed your signature states you are modeling the MMID in 2006, is that before G&W took them over? Only reason I ask is your avatar logo is definitely after the take over.

Will post photos when finished.

Jim:

I'll definitely show some photos once I get it completed.  I use the G&W logo for my Avatar as I could not find a version of the old logo that worked very well.  Will probably try again now that you have mentioned it.

Logo

Nevin, sorry to make work for you to look for the old logo, although I love the orange and black of the G&W and its logos, I always liked the MMID paint scheme.

I am from the area of the original G&W railroad and my uncle worked for them, although I was not into railroads as much back then, a missed opportunity.

Textures?

You might have to register to see these but there is a selection of plywood, including OSB, at Textures.com:

Or older:

There's a bunch more.

Importing these into CorelDraw or Affinity will allow you to easily customize them.

Good Luck, Ed
