Can the Atlas RS11 traverse sharp curves? (like 15" radius)

Can it do so without modification?

maybe, but...

maybe, but the coupler may be too offset (left/right).

It depends on front & rear overhang.

My first layout was in a one car garage back in the early 1970's.  I modified a plan from an Atlas track plan book.  I had one spur that had a 15 inch radius.  I could push a 40-50 foot boxcar into it with a Gp7 or 9.  An attempt with an Sd40-2 resulted on any boxcar tipping up on 4 wheels with the other 4 wheels an inch or so above the rails, then falling back on the rails when the train got out of the curve.

The Athearn blue box Sd40-2 easily handled the 15 inch radius, but overhang was so bad that it would not pull a train through such a tight radius.  I did not worry about the problem because my plan was to work that siding with nothing larger than a gp or sw locomotive.

Switchers are Cool!

Might be time to point out S-1, S-2, NW, SW-7, SW-1200, SW-1500, MP-15, or any Baldwin switcher looks real nice and would be at home on 15" turns. There is also enough history of any of them pulling locals on the High Iron for use as road engines.
