Re: Procor "GP20" tank cars.  "Current non-pressure (general service) tank cars, contrary to the comments concerning Rapido's models, do not have "domes" --- a "dome" on obsolete tank cars is correctly called an "expansion dome".  Today, what are incorrectly called "domes" on pressure and non-pressure (not "low-pressure) are "protective housings".  Google "Field Guide for Tank Cars" --- it gives the true terminology for tank cars (which are not "tankers" or "tanker cars").

Okay, I'll bite

What brought this on?  What you say is correct, but I don't recall anyone on this forum describing the upcoming Rapido model incorrectly.

I will add that calling this tank car a "GP20" is unfortunate in our circles even if Procor did call it that back in the day.  You see, GM didn't sell any GP20s (General Purpose locomotive, 20-hundred horsepower) in Canada, so I guess when Procor introduced their General Purpose tank car, 20-thousand gallons they didn't consider the confusion it would cause decades later.

(well, it wasn't called that in my job description at the Southern Railway, but it was part of my job....)

.

Yeah this reads like a copy and paste of an in-context reply to a completely different thread on this or another forum.
