This is mostly a test of the 4K capabilities of my cell phone, as well as combining my stabilizer rig with the cell phone. Seemed to work pretty well.

I think I've figured out why I'm going so slowly on the scenery on my layout - I'm not very good at it yet, and I want to get better before I start going whole hog. I also want to get the railroad operating, which at this point is a combination of data entry and getting enough locomotives set up to my satisfaction.

Amtrak Anniversary special

Amtrak also ran a heritage passenger special down the Willamette Western in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Amtrak:

I like your approach ...

Getting the overall in place and then making solid progress on completing scenes as you go, bring it all along together.  The areas you've got completed look fantastic so I don't think you should be critical of your skills.  Those trees on the corner look amazing.

The trees on the corner...

Those were a purchase several years ago from a gentleman who lives/lived up in Oakridge, Oregon. He sold them at the Willamette Valley RR Club swap meets in Eugene.

Nice

Stabilized footage looks pretty good. Are you using a clip-on mike, or one on the phone?

Looks like great track-work

...based on how smoothly that Amtrak Heritage Special breezed by! Nicely done!

Amtrak sound

That layout looks to be fun.

As I currently struggle with the entry into DCC sound 'world-of-its-own' I thought that Amtrak locomotive really sounded, and looked great.

What engine is that and what is its decoder?

Thanks!

Thanks to all for the comments. To answer the questions:

1. That was all using the mike on the camera itself.

2. The P42 is an Athearn, equipped with a Loksound Select decoder with the 73482 project specifically for the P42: http://projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/search?cat=2&q=P42 And I left the volume up - it was screaming.

PaulMac - that was some of the first trackwork I had laid in about 6 years, back in early 2004. Just beyond it to the right is a pretty treacherous S-curve that some of those cars were unhappy about, but they went around it.

Amtrak

Great work, loved seeing your progress.

Heck your Amtrak train looked a lot like the early days, were it not for the head end power!

P42

With its own sound project. Nice.

HEP screams

Both the P42 and the F40PH tend to scream as they use the prime mover to produce power for the rest of the train. So they "idle" at high RPM - notch 6 or so on the F40PH, I believe.

It does make them sound unique.
