WE HAVE A $1000 SHOPPING SPREE WINNER! (Oct 31, 2008)

Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine has conducted the October 31st online shopping spree random drawing using a random number generator from among 3949 subscribers.
The random number generator picked these subscriber numbers:
Winner:
2258 - subscriber ID: mechanic
Runner-up:
2487 - subscriber ID: Javier Martinez
We generated two numbers - the first is the primary winner and the second is a runner-up (more about what these are in a moment).
Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine will be contacting the primary winner by email - if the primary winner fails to respond to us within one week (by 2 pm on Friday, November 7, 2008), then the runner-up automatically becomes the winner.
So congratulations to mechanic! Please contact us using the contact form on this site, or call 1-800-920-6020 in the US (or call 1-503-981-3054 outside the US) to acknowledge receiving the email notice that you have won, and to collect your prize!
We also ask that Javier Martinez contact us if he has not received our email about him being the runner-up.
The next Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine $1000 online shopping spree drawing will be January 31st, 2009. To be eligible you must be a Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine subscriber - but subscribing is free, so why not subscribe today and get a chance at giving your hobby a $1000 shot in the arm!

We hope to get more details soon
We hope to get more details soon from our winner, Eric Ripper (aka mechanic).
Eric's from Canada, and he just bought a bunch of goodies from two of our sponsors, Tonys Train Exchange and Dallas Model Works.
Looks like some fun DCC times ahead for Eric! Congratulation, Eric ... we look forward to hearing about your model railroading pursuits!
We haven't heard from our runner up yet ... we hope they do finally check in with us, because even the runner-up wins some neat train goodies worth over $100 ...

Hi Joe. First I'd like to say
Hi Joe.
First I'd like to say a BIG thank you to model railroad hobbiest for having this shopping spree.
I'd also like to thank all the sponsors who help make these types of things possible.
My 13 year old daughter April and I have been building the worlds greatest hobby layout for a while now.
We were sort of "stalled" because of a lack of funds for the structures.
I'm a 43 year old dinosaur that likes DC control but my daughter is more into the digital age.
Because of that we were at a sort of cross roads as to what to use as a control system.
We already had starter set dc power pac and a couple of locomotives but she really wanted dcc.
When we saw that we won the give away it was a fore gone conclusion that we COULD afford to install dcc.
It was like a dream come true, and it could not have come at a better time.
What we purchased (since you asked) was a Walthers 2-8-8-2 articulated DCC sound equipped locomotive along with a MRC Prodigy advanced squared dcc system from Tonys trains.
The locomotive is not released yet though so we will have to wait patiently until it arrives.
We also purchased a Atlas gold EMD GP40 and several of the buildings that we need to finish the 4x8 layout we are working on from Dallas model works.
We called both Tonys trains and Dallas model works to place the orders and both places have very knowledgable and helpful staff.
I recommend them highly.

Excellent!
Eric:
Thanks for the report! Also send us some photos ... of yourself and your daughter, of the layout, etc. If you know how to post them yourself, be my guest.
Otherwise, just send us an email with the photos attached and we'll get them posted. I'm sure people would love to see what you're up to.
Glad to hear MRH and our sponsors have been able to help out your hobby efforts. That's what we're here for!

Congrats Eric!
What a great story! It's really nice to hear that the $1000 went to a father/daughter team and that it came just at the right time. I'm sure your daughter is going to love the DCC system and I think you will come to love it as well.
Looking forward to hearing/seeing how your layout is coming along.
Have fun!
