Tamiya powders

Weathering the rock haulers with old school thinned wash, but also these powders from Tamiya that have a kind of gummy or sticky property to them. Some of it stays where applied and some can be blown off.

rescue attempt

Some years ago I built a few wagon bodies and tried to weight them, with birdshot. I ended up with too much weight, and glued it in with white glue. Do not do this. This weekend I decided to soak them and see what I could salvage:

Trailing Tender for Royal Hudson

Got a coupler attached on the trailing tender.  Shimmed it down with two pieces of .080 x .312 Evergreen but haven’t painted it yet (white spot above coupler). If I had a mulligan I’d have not removed the front piece and a .080 and .040 would have been better.

I do like the signage on these combined - confirms the locale of my modeling!  Will whitewall the wheels on the rear one at some point.  Haven’t decided what to do with the fireman pass through yet.  Guessing if the prototype ever trailed a tender like this they’d have kept it in place to enable swapping.

In checking both tenders with the loco after though, I have somehow buggered the sound ... more in my blog ...

What's On Your Workbench?

Eric, Help!!!

8_-_copy.jpg What am I gonna do? There is too much stuff on the workbench! I think first I'll put my shoes on! I guess I do whatever is directly in front of me then work my way around in a clockwise manner. If that doesn't work I'll go left to right.

It's a heck of a day

New magnet plan

I broke the motor frame piece knocking out the magnet-rivet. Luckily I had another frame.

Passenger Platforms

heh9lQ_0.jpg Platform base is basswood spray painted with grey texture paint on the edges to look like concrete. The clothespins are holding on the edge cap which is balsa, scored and painted a lighter grey. Once dried I'll hit it with india ink wash to weather it. Final platform surface will be the pinkish ballast in the back.

South River Modelworks Car shop - Diesel shop

I've owned this kit for 20 years now! I figured I'd better build it now!

I just finished installing the roof trusses and LED lighting that I attached to those trusses.

MTB MP5

4 of these wonderful little machines arrived a few days ago and I spent the evening exploring their workings and working them into my panel circuitry.  Soon,  no more comparatively huge Tortoises to snag with my bedsheets!

Here's a link to my  MP5 Review and Digitrax DS64 Integration

Cans

I’m weathering about 30 containers. I started by painting the door posts. Then applied various filters and washes. Last night I was chipping. I’ll try to get some streaking done tonight.

Greg I’m really enjoying your hyper detailed micro scenes!  must be very rewarding to start and finish a bounded area. Your workmanship is tip top also

Jeff

Thank you Jeff!

I am excited to be starting on my new layout here soon.  I have a group of structures that I have super detailed, but never put on a layout that I plan to use. It will be fun building something a bit larger again and also get my motivated to finish the rest of the room.

@kevinn, I always enjoy

@kevinn,

I always enjoy seeing SP Cadillac's.  They used to be regulars through Davis CA where I grew up!  I even splurged and bought a pair of the recent Walthers SD9E's that look similar to your finished model with the light packages and all.

The diesel shop looks

The diesel shop looks outstanding!

Most of my progress this month has been ballasting my yard.  Though I did get started on the first of seven houses for the neighborhood.  I'll have to take some pictures.

CAT'n around

I'm working on a "building under construction scene" on my HOn3 layout. I've had this Evergreen Hill designs metal kit of a1935 RD-8 Caterpillar in my "home hobby shop" for several years. Now is it's time. Prior to assembly I pre-painted the parts with craft paint burnt umber as an under coat and then applied a couple of very watered down washes of yellows. The engine components received the under coat and a wash of raw umber. The tracks received the under coat followed by a wash of dark grey. Pre-painting is good on a model like this but be sure and clean off the areas where glue will be applied other wise your model won't stand up to much handling. (Ask me how I know). I still need to weather the little beast. I model 1938 so it shouldn't look like a derelict just a few years of in-service.
