Well, I've finally went back to working on the Joppa Subdivison Layout...After about an 18 month hiatus...due to planning, and capital issues...So, I have invested in layout design software, mainly for having my webpage redone with the layout schematic on it...along with pictures of various areas of the layout and such.

Right now, the layout room is getting new berber carpeting and padding...I have installed a new air conditioner system, along with more electrical installtions for ease of lighting...while I am doing that, I'm starting on some of the new motive power for the layout...mainly B23-7's, GP15-1's, and GP38-2's...just to have  a few units in operating condition once the mainline is down and operational.

I have been building engines with Brian Banna's tutoring, so I have an idea as to how much detail I will put into these new units...but they will have more detailing done on their undercarriage than before due to the multi-level design that I am using...I have found on the previous versions of this layout that you can see a heck of alot of the underframe when viewing the trains at eye level.

I plan to start tracklaying by August...and hope to have some trains running by the end of September on the bottom deck, if possible...I am meticulous about my trackwork, so I won't even make promises to myself about that!!

That's all for now...I've began rewriting my webpages as well...and I'll have them uploaded soon.

Introduction

I should also introduce myself as well...My name is Thomas Austin...I am residing in Centralia, Illinois...I am originally from West Frankfort, IL...and grew up along the former C&EI tracks there...under MoPac control...My layout is based on the Missouri Pacific's Joppa Subdivion in the early 1980's...the Joppa Sub consisted mainly of coal traffic, and local traffic, but had some interesting scenery and operations as you traveled south to the Ohio River valley and Joppa, IL...the area depicted has numerous topography changes, along with interchanges with several railroads...namely Illinois Central Gulf, Crab Orchard & Egyptian, Conrail, and Burlington Northern.

I currently serve as Archivist of the Missouri Pacific Historical Society, and have done so since 2001....I am also an avid railfan of both the prototype, and model railroads alike...I like to learn from everyone, if possible...Model Railroading is a wonderful hobby because of the craftsmenship, skill, technology, and mostly the fellowships formed by meeting other model railroaders and hearing their stories and seeing their work up close and in-person...I look forward to meeting more excellent people along the way as we go along here on this site!!
