During this recent cold weather(NE Ohio) my train room's temp is around 60-62 degrees and the humidity around 30%.  I was recently doing some scenery using WS's ground cover products and diluted white glue(4 water:1 Glue).  I painted the base plywood area with earthen color latex paint and sifted on the ground cover.(some soil, fine and coarser grass). After saturating the ground cover with white in the usual method, I notice the glue dried but did not turn clear.  There were "patches" of dried, but white and crusty glue on the surface of both the ground cover and surrounding layout wood..  Has anyone else experienced this before?

Thanks,

Bob

What glue?

What brand of white glue did you use?  Elmer's Glue All dries clear, Elmer's School Glue not so much.  Not sure about other brands.

One thing I should have

One thing I should have mentioned. I recently used the colored sanded grout as mentioned by Lance Mindheim in a recent article in MR. I used this material over earth colored latex paint. I then misted wet water over the grout. It set up nicely. I then applied various WS ground covers over it. I then used wet water over the ground covers. Then I saturated the covers with white glue. Both Elmer's products and diluted Liquitex did the same thing. I am convinced the issue is the cold temp and low humidity. I can not believe the grout, which had set up and dried thoroughly was the problem. But I am open to suggestions.

Elmer's "white glue" is only

Elmer's "white glue" is only white while wet.... it DOEES dry "clear", but thicker layers may take days...

...but eventually, they all go yellow and turn brittle. That's why you should use mod poge/acrylic ... it stays clear and at least slightly flexible.
