All,

I need to supplement my room lighting, so I'm considering LED floodlights mounted on the ceiling joists in porcelain lamp holders. My thought would be to place them 2' apart and slightly back from the edge of the fascia to avoid shadows on the front edge.

The bulbs I'm considering are flood light style, 110 degree spread 17W (100w eqv) 1400lm, 4000k temp (to match the lights in the room). I was thinking about mounting them on an angle facing the back of the benchwork; it's approx 45" from the bottom of the joists to what will be the top of the rail in this section. I'm estimating I would need ten fixtures and bulbs to cover this 20' section of the layout.

The picture shows the hidden lower level staging, the upper deck will be 10" above this.

Here's the bulb: TORCHSTAR Dimmable LED BR40 Flood Light Bulb, 17W (100W Eqv.), 1400lm, E26 Base, UL & Energy Star Listed,4000K Cool White, for 6 Inch Can Light Trim.

It comes to approx $8 for each bulb and fixture. I tried some LED tubes, but I wasn't happy with the results, the  best LUX reading I could get was approx 300. I would like to have at least 500lux at the railhead.

Just wondering if anyone has done anything similar?

Thanks,

Lou Nigro
