Hello all!  I am looking to model this old GN Depot as a modern day version of the structure. (used for storage)  However, I don't know where to start as far as a good wood kit that I could use a s a jumping of point.  If anyone has any Ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!

PhotoMatch

Matt;

I assume you are modeling in HO scale. This is a fairly simple box building and you could layout a mockup of it in a few minutes with card stock.

Another way to go is import the pictures into SketchUp using the PhotoMatch option built-in. Once you've traced over the building it becomes three dimensional and can be turned, rotated, copied, and modified to fit your space. Scale it to print in HO and do each side or use a plug-in called "flatten" to get all sides facing forward.

My Cricut does an ok job of cutting out sides that can be laminated to a backing or plexiglass box so the windows are transparent. Just a thought since building a kit is just having the right stuff. You can do this without the box sticks.

You could probably find a house kit to bash,

but it would probably be more trouble than building it from scratch.  I think Evergreen makes lapped siding sheets.  The dark boards in the peak at each end appear to be something like stained cedar.  That could be made with plain styrene scribed for the verticle boards.  A Cricut could probably be set up to cut the decorative ends of those dark boards.  Everything else, windows, doors, the signal lights on the roof are just details that you can probably purchase.  The Sandpoint sign  could be made from the plastic letter sets made to fit into corrugated signs with the "legs" cut off", and a couple of peices of styrene cut to make horizontal furring strips to mount the letters.  I presume that the G.N. logos are available as decals.

I'd pick this one.  There are other choices.

GN Store

Not even close to this one in particular.

Scratchbuilding is your answer for an actual match.

The Glass Block Windows

Might be done by using canopy glue on a wire mesh of appropriate size. You can likely get close, if not exact, matches for the other windows and doors from standard parts.

Sorry to say....

But it looks like you're scratchbuilding that one, if for no other reason than it looks like they used O scale clapboard siding.

Scratchbuilding!?!

Thanks for the feedback gang! Looks like I'll be scratchbuilding this baby!  That's cool though.  I was hoping for a simple kitbash, but I actually don't mind the idea of trying my hand at scratchbuilding that guy.  It will be a project for another year I think, but I'll be looking forward to it.

Thanks again!

AMB model kit #133

Just to close the loop on this thread, I ended up going with an AMB model kit #133 as suggested in this thread by Lee1234 as a basis for the model.  I think with some creative kitbashing I can get it pretty close. Thanks again all!
