I saw this posted on another forum,...where a fellow experience a burned up decoder on a BLI blueline loco

Important DC Advisory

Do NOT use MRC 1300-series DC controllers with any of Rapido's locomotives. The RailPower 1300 is notorious for voltage spikes and it WILL destroy your locomotive. There is no “if” about it. We will try to help you if we have the parts, but we are not responsible for locomotive damage due to voltage spikes in your power supply. As well, we will not repair any locomotive damaged by an MRC 1300-series controller

I have one of those...

Got it for testing DC locomotives.

Looks like I have a small project: Put it on the scope and have a look at the output.

Rapido has been saying this for years, yet some refuse to believe.

This topic will probably get interesting.

This is where I saw the problem that a gentleman had, and that comment added.

Correct ....

I had one customer come into our shop with a non-functioning ESU equipped engine he had recently purchased. I tested it myself, and it was in fact, dead. No lights, sound or movement.

We replaced the engine for him and he was back the following week with the exact same problem. After extensive questioning, it came to light he was running the engine on DC using an MRC 1300 series power pack.

The warning can also be found on Walthers regarding their engines equipped with ESU decoders.

Wow

But why would you test a loco with DCC on DC? I test locos on DC before they get a decoder, but I use a Tech II. Unfortunately, it's not surprising, as those were made to drive DC locomotives that could better handle a voltage spike.
