It is almost December so time to put up some Christmas decorations on my HO layout. This past year I got the last of the lamp posts up. So many towns and communities decorate their posts so why not do it in HO.

The process is simple, just need some time.
Tools used include a hot wire cutter, knife, cutters.
You need some extruded foam, couple of washers, craft paints, glue, fine turf, “dots” for decorations, thin wire.

Here is the end result of using my hot wire cutter to cut tubes. The washers mentioned were the guides.

The steps are drill small hole for Center of tube. Hot glue washers over the hole. Use the hot wire to cut the inside first. Then cut the outside. This means fishing the wire through the Center hole to cut, then do the outside.

Cutting circles

Once you have a tube, it is time to cut circles.

I adjust misy wire to a suitable depth an slice away.

Next is decorating. The wreaths and canes got painted first. Green and white respectively.

additionally the wreaths got dipped in a glue water mixture and then sprinkle green turf. Let dry.

Hanging

My lamp posts are tapered so the decorations hang easily.

I bent a little Shepard’s hook with large enough diameter to fit around top of post, and small enough that as it slides down it and then stops.

Neat use for hot wire cutter

Don't breathe in the fumes from the styrofoam or you'll be seeing flying reindeer and elves everywhere.
