My layout still under construction, is a two level16' x 13' multi-layout deck using an elevator system to move trains between levels.  Just starting now on the lower level I realized I needed to install some sort of system so I could monitor the elevator to ensure a train was fully on the elevator.  Just testing the system I hit the control while a train was only partially on the elevator. It was not a pretty site watching rolling stock fall into the abyss!

Pulling out the old Walthers catelog I looked at train detection systems. The ones featured seemed rather expensive and had more features than I really needed. Then one day I saw Harbor Freight had a surveillance system on sale.  However investigating that the hardward required really would not fit and I would need 4 cameras to cover the elevator operation.  So back to the thought of using IR train detection and searching the web for supplieres

I ran across a company called AZATRAX.   (www.azatrax.com).  They have a number of  train controllers, switch controllers and IR detection devices at very affordable pricing.  Since all I needed was an indicator at each end of the elevator to show that the train is no longer on the transition danger zone, I opted for two of their single IR detector - just 15.50 each!

Now this is where they really impressed me.  Not only are they well made but the level of customer service is outstanding.  I placed an order on Thursday 1/13 evening and they arrived on Tuesday 1/18.  Now thats great service when you consider that this was regular shipping and the weekend included MLK day!  I have never recommended a business online but to all my fellow hobbyiets if you are looking for train detection that is reliable and versatilecheck these guys out.

And John, if you happen to read this the MRD1'a are awesome and work great.

I don't mean to sound like an ad, but running across their website and doing business with them was a breath of fresh air.
