So I had an idea... I’m building a small diorama as kind of a test bed for scenery items and techniques. I thought to myself: anyone who’s ever built a small display piece of any kind, regardless of the item displayed after the “new ness” of it has come to pass it will eventually collect dust. I know that’s not the case for everyone but more often than not that’s the reality. So you ask, what more could be done with this small display/diorama? Why not wire it as a test track/program track? You may also ask: if it’s a diorama then when it comes to the finished product I’m kind of stuck with what I created? Not necessarily. If you’re using a foam base you can easily make certain items detachable by mounting them on toothpicks or pins. Your options as far as scenery are endless but I have two distinct ideas. The first would be something completely ambiguous, for example; tracks running through a partially paved/gravel area. This will more than likely be my choice. The second would be something completely out of my comfort zone.

You might say: I already have a layout or a module, I can’t see why I would want this? To which I would say it’s an idea, an opportunity, and though our hobby is expensive and time is precious it may help you save both time and money before committing to larger projects.

Just a thought...

I’m going to get started on mine very soon as I’m going to attempt to write a small article on lineside details, particularly those that are either obscure or those that I consider “hidden in plain sight.”

Seems like an interesting concept

I like the idea of detachable structures do you can swap them out later.
