bobmorning

First off I recognize that I'm using my Fire in a way that Amazon doesn't support.   I have a 7th gen Fire tablet that I have modified to run the Google Play Store.   Doing this gets you to many more apps than Amazon allows on their app store.

Doing so allows me to install SideBooks.  Here's the rub, SideBooks is not recognized by the Fire as a PDF reader.   After downloading MRH, if I navigate to the the download directory using a file navigator and do a long press on the pdf, the Fire only presents me with two apps:  Acrobat Reader and the Kindle Reader.

I can start SideBooks independently but it has no awareness of the Fire download directory and presents me with cloud, dropbox, and a "move the file you want to read to this obscure android directory" option.

The missing step is how to associate the Sidebooks app with the pdf file type.   Again I realize this is a pretty obscure use case caused by my "hacking" my Fire to do things that Amazon considers a no-no.

This isn't a big deal, I just wanted to try the Sidebooks app that Joe has been fawning over and my Fire tablet is my primary device to read MRH with.

Yes tried on a fire 10

Yes

I installed Google browser as soon as I got it to replace my eclipse.

Chose to replace my failing eclipse 7.

Just to read MRH and Running Extra it works great!

Joe decided to switch to Sidebooks.

I searched Google for it downloaded and installed.

The test file worked, the first download of the first sidebooks issue did not work. Downloaded the issue again the next day. (Joe did a tweak of The file) The new download worked great was able to choose sidebooks to open with.

Next issue not so lucky could not choose an association and it defaulted to kindle. This also messed up the first sidebook issue also along with all other PDF's

Fire had had an OS update, after an uninstall of Sidebooks and reinstall of Sidebook, works great on my other saved and new PDF's, but NOT Running Extra but now I can open RE in acrobat instead of kindle. I can view as a single page OK.

I could not get the Sidebooks Library thing to work either.

Tried support from MRH and an email to Jeff no luck.

Jeff - if I didn't respond to the email, I didn't get it. Unfortunately the only Fire I have is quite old. I'll charge it up and see what I can do though. I don't remember if it has Google play access or not.

My Fire got a factory reset some time ago, so no Google Play or sideloading.
