Tell us WHERE

You need to tell us generally WHERE you are located for any down reports to be useful. The other thing we have seen happen is your modem/router gets corrupted and your firewall prevents a given IP from being reached. A power recyle of your modem/router usually solves the problem.

Not Here......

Not Here, (Klamath Falls), the TrainMasters Tv home page displays, but hit the sign in button, the page changes to all black, the address header has the trainmasters.tv/sign_in, but nothing shows up.

Okay, then let's see if we can find a common thread

Okay, let's see if we can find the common thread. Tell us this: 1. What kind of device (Windows PC, Mac, tablet brand, phone brand, Roku, or Apple TV). 2. If on a PC, what version of Windows? 10? 8? 7? or ?? 3. If not Roku or Apple TV, then what browser (Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge, Safari, ...) Let's see if there's a common thread between those who are having problems.

As stated earlier, with Explorer, the Train Masters Tv home page displays, but hit the sign-in button, the page changes goes all black, the address header has the trainmasters.tv/sign_in, but a black screen.

In am running Windows 10, and am located in Central Ontario, Canada

yep... TMTV is broken for Internet Explorer

It's true TMTV is broken for Internet Explorer 11.900.18362.0

It works in:

  • Firefox 77.0.1 (64-bit)
  • Chrome Version 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • and Edge Version 83.0.478.58 (Official build) (64-bit)

Back to you Joe...

Up for me

Safari on iOS, location is eastern MA.

I will say that pretty much any version of IE, and the older versions of Edge are the source of a disproportionately high percentage of web developer headaches.  The older versions of Edge use a microsoft written engine.  The newer versions use the chromium engine (the open source version of the guts of Chrome).

So if you’re using Edge, reporting the version number of Edge to Joe might help him narrow down the problem more.

Not in Default Edge

I'm at work in Stayton, the version of Edge that I think came with Win10 gives you the homepage, but when I click on "Log in" it goes black.

Chrome works fine.

Downloading current version of Edge to see if there is a difference.

Okay, current version of Edge doesn't make a difference. Home displays, Join now displays, none of the options from Join Now display. Sign In does not display.

Catalog only shows the menu across the top. It looks at first glance if everything works on Blog.

FAQ works.

Seems like the fairly static pages work, but any that require coding to generate the page... no go.

I'm not seeing anything obvious in the settings to fix this.

Update: The new version may not have installed, so the above is probably from the default. Anyone know where to find the version number these days?

New Edge

Everything works - it's just the old IE based one that doesn't work.

New Edge

You were correct, Jeff.

I just down loaded the new edge, and after a couple of updates on my info, Trainmaster is working as it always has. Really good to see the sign-in page and have it not go black.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Forced upgrade?

If I had any thought that Microsoft would stealthily force upgrades by disabling features in older versions of their software, I might think that this had happened here.

But certainly there are enough business (life?) critical applications written for IE that they couldn't have regression tested them all to make sure doing something like that wouldn't kill someone (or a business, or... based on past employment... the US Army Reserve Retention Management System...)

Yep that’s it, old browsers — update, guys!

Okay the developers got back to me ... here’s their response.

Quote:

We have received some reports like yours in the last 48 hours, upon investigation, we were able to identify some issues with outdated web browsers that seem deprecated.

The solution is to update the web browser to the last version available. Clearing the web browser cache and deleting the cookies is recommended too.

Internet Explorer is NOT a browser you should be using with Uscreen / TMTV. It has too many outdated features to be a safe browser for Internet use regardless and should be abandoned ASAP.

If the issue persists, please provide us with the following information from each customer:

1- If you try on another web browser, does the issue persist?
2- If you try on another network/device, does the issue persist?
3- Please provide your IP address, it can be retrieved here: http://ip.me.uk/
/> 4- Please provide a screenshot of your current web browser version details

So in general, keep your browser updated. And get off IE ... Its best use is to download another browser to replace it!

I think your thoughts are correct.

Jeff,

Just my opinion, but I do not think they are above that in the least. Especially with the introduction of Win 10.

Regardless, thanks as I have held back on the new Edge to see what others thought.

The end of TMTV for me

Still using IE 11, so TMTV is now useless to me.  More money wasted with online access items.

Get a different browser! End IE, not TMTV!

Get a new browser.  There’s nothing IE 11 can do that pretty much any of the newer browsers can’t do better.  Install Chrome ( https://www.google.com/chrome/), or firefox ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/), or even the new MS Edge browser.  They’re all free.  There’s no reason not to replace IE.

IE is dead

If an employee was found to still be using IE for work, that’s grounds for termination. IE is a dead browser that even Microsoft recommends you replace! https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-internet-explorer-dead-1995-to-2019-rip The best use for IE is to use it to download a better browser.

Down here for days

I use Windows Edge and it's down for me an has been. I can not sign in or join, either. My sub is up as of the 8th July. It's always worked in the past, no problem.

I'll try Chrome and see if that helps, though I don't care for Chrome.

Also, my firewall is not blocking any of my regular sites so that's not it.

James again

I just tried Google Chrome and it works, and no problem with the firewall or I would have been alerted.

Apparently, the site no longer works on my particular brand of MS Edge. Bother!

I'm afraid the ball my be in your court, Joe, though I don't know what the answer might be as I've noted others using Edge and it working.
