I came across some model freight trains of my late father. wheel width is a little too narrow to run on HO, but I found track that they do match, and it is just less than the HO width of .625 (see pic). I checked web and can't find a standard scale/gauge that matches. Any suggestions?

As always, thanks in advance for review and comment. This is a very helpful forum for newbie like me

Possibly Sn3

The track proportions in your photo and your description of slightly less than HO gauge suggest Sn3 (S scale 3 foot gauge), S Scale has a proportion of 1:64th, or 3/16 of an inch to the foot. If it is Sn3, the track will be 0.5625" (9/16") actual gauge, inside to inside.

Sn3 is a specialized scale/gauge combination used by narrow gauge modellers, and has a small but dedicated following. I used to be active in it.

Sn3

The length of the ties vs the gauge is a giveaway.  It looks the the old Tomalco Sn3 track that was manufactured by Micro Engineering.

Ruler shows a little over 17/32

A visual estimate off the ruler in the picture on the first post puts the track gauge a little over 17/32, or 0.53125, so 0.5625 is probably right.  It certainly looks like narrow gauge track, and Sn3 is the closest scale and gauge to that measurement.

How about a photo of some of the rolling stock?

If you posted a photo of the locomotive and of the various rolling stock, especially next to a ruler, it would give everyone a better chance at identifying what scale and gauge those trains and track are.

Based on this,  I think that in the morning I will go stick a piece of paper denoting the proper scale in each of my boxes of Lionel  O27 and N scale trains that are in my storage room.  Make it a little easier on my grandson when he has to clean out all my crap after I shuffle off the mortal coil.

After all, I had to pick up all his stuff when he was little.  It's only fair he has to pick up after me in the future.  But I'll be a sport and label the mysterious stuff.

My dad ^ LOL.

He used to say that all the time. I was thinking  “holy cow that is a lot of crap to get rid of when you’re gone”. I really don’t need any of the stuff he has saved up for decades and I don’t have any space in my house if I did.
