For many years I have wanted to created a scale model of my childhood home to put on my layout.  Here's the home:

Modeling my childhood home - Part 1: Leaning drawing software

My good friend Michael Rose said that he would cut out the parts on his laser if I provided the drawings.  He uses a special software to create his drawings and then imports them in CorelDRAW(tm) to feed to his laser.  I purchased a copy of CorelDRAW(tm) from eBay and I am in the process of learning the basics of using it and how to properly format the different layers to be correct for laser cutting.

Michael wisely suggested that I start with a simple box structure and he will laser cut it.  It will be a simple rectangle with some window and door openings.  Michael provided me with some sample files of a building that he designed so I can study them and learn.  I'm in no hurry to do this but will post my progress.

Hi Rick

First this was a nice house, very similar of house you could find in Belgium, were I lived before.

I just acquired Corell Draw  just one day ago, also in a future process to use it with laser or 3d printers.

But sure the learning curves is a long way to go, I just have installed it on my computer, and will look a bit after, this evening.

I must admit I don't really know a lot about it, I have just somme approach of computer drawing with CAD rail and a bit with Power Tools but no more, to not say nothing.

I have been inspired to buy it  also by following Michael work and  Rick Reiner with his On3 layout, the Rumpe and Tumbelle layout

Seems Corell Drawn could produce nice structures files…….in a next future

Hope to share some approach with you in a next future.

On the run whith my Maclau River RR in Nscale

I have been using a laser for over 6 years now. I'm self taught, depending on friends to answer my questions , I was 74 and not computer literate.  How I taugh t my self was to make simple drawings and export them to a printer,. Wonse I mastered corel  I bought a  Epilog zing and have never looked back . I t allows me to keep modeling My failing eye sight not holding me back,. ADVICE go out and make mistaques., AND KEEP A BOOK OF LASER SETTINGS .  Regards Ray  NMRA MMR 637   stay well.
