Well I skipped week 4 due to this pandemic crisis we are unfortunately going through right now and with my firefighter position meant that I had been at work a little bit more than normal so I was not able to invest much time into the Monster Railroad until just a few days ago. Now with social isolation in full effect I will have plenty of home time to do even more layout projects. I am surprised that after just one month of building this layout I am almost done with all the benchwork!  I started on February 18th and on March 23rd more than 75% of all the benchwork is complete!  Well here is Week 5 layout build video, enjoy!

Lovin’ it!

Al - another great video!  It looks like you should have the benchwork done in another long weekend and start getting that backdrop up. I look forward to seeing how you will use some photos on that.

I know you don’t have a firm track plan but the basic idea is there. I’ve wondered, as I watch your progress, if you had considered a second deck at some point. It seems as though there is plenty of space for a helix. Just thinking out loud here.

Keep on and glad you are safe out there.

They call him "Five-drills"...

Another great video Al!

Your enthusiasm and rapid progress with simple methods is inspiring.  Soon you will be at that moment when you step back and survey the finished benchwork and realize just how much space you have for your new layout.

Keep it up!

He who has the most drills, wins!

great video Big Al,

You know, back in the good old days, we used to sweep up that sawdust, dye it green and use it for grass! (Scenery grass that is, not the smokin' type).

Ha ha ha. Grass!

Ok so I am the winner with 5 drills!  Man I love having a drill in every corner of my basement, all with different bits for different jobs. The secret to getting so many was shared on Facebook but I will share it with you guys now that I am done and got them all. Three easy steps to get them for less than $20 brand new!

1. Go to eBay and search out any manufacturer drills that offer the lifetime warranty ie Dewalt, Ridgid,,Craftsmen. In my case I use Ridgid. Type in "_______ For parts" fill in the blank with your desired manufacturer

2. The list is long, find the drills that are around $10-20 total with it shipped.  Buy it.

3. Get it in the mail and bring it to Home Depot and they will trade it out at the spot for a brand new one with NO QUESTIONS. Yup, true story.

I have done it for 3 drills, a battery charger and a Ridgid 18v Multi tool.  Each one was less than $20.

Educate yourself on the LIFETIME WARRANTY's. I was not doing it to resell which still would be 100% legal and fine but I did it for my personal stock of drills. I may buy another impact drill today too. I promise you it is legal with the LIFETIME WARRANTY that they offer for their products. I have done it 4 times and they switched each one out and I walked out with new drills and no paperwork or taxes. Even swap outs for the warranty.

Back to ebay to find an impact drill for my garage, I do not want to bring one of these out to the garage, that is way too much work and too far to travel so the garage will need its own drills.   LOL.

Haha,  I can count nine of mine off the top of my head , might find a couple more if I looked around. Of course I've had lots more years to build the collection :> ) .......DaveB
