I've got a Model Power HO scale 0-4-0 Fat Boy with tender all in pretty good shape. The motor runs well; worm gear is in good. The light works. Cosmetically looks great. Problem is the idler gear/drive gear is stripped and there's caked-on burnt plastic and congealed grease present. I'm looking for a replacement gear as well as some tips on cleanup. The gear is located on the drive wheel shaft and doesn't appear that it can be removed. If that's the case I'll need the gear and wheel assembly. Any ideas/tips?

Model Power 0-4-0 Fat Boy

Back on the 3rd of Jan I posted about my problem with getting this loco to run. 175 reads; no responses yet. Here's the latest.  I've carefully inspected both the worm gear and the idler/drive gear; the motor runs fine. The drive gear is on the axle of the wheel set closest to the rear of the engine. The teeth on this gear are all intact altho a bit worn down; the worm gear is broken near the end and there is a short longitudinal split on the motor end. I can find a new motor & worm gear on line but I'm having trouble locating an idler gear (dimensions: 8.39 mm diameter with 19 teeth).

Any expert loco repair guys out there with any suggestions? Should I go for the new motor assembly and see if it'll work with the semi-OK idler gear?
