well i am having trouble just getting things shipped to me from a couple supplier's, and now wondering if digitrax is worth it.

as most of the threads focus on another brand of dcc controllers.

i read where digitrax "is now shipping" and that info is old, but my last order has been waiting for two months now, the first was canceled by a suppler. (after a two month wait)  and all this is just for one item.

looks like digitrax does not care about there end users.

why do supplier's sell things not in there inventory? or know they can not get.

Model Train Stuff

https://www.modeltrainstuff.com

has Digitrax in stock, some 95 items.

One of the things I like about them is they show how many of an item are in stock.

Not a user but

Remember they went through a horrible hurricane and basically IMO are lucky to be in business. If you have not tried a telephone call, I would do that next. Good luck.

What are you trying to get?  MB Klein or Yankee Dabbler usually have Digitrax products in stock. Also Bob the Train guy on ebay is a reliable source. My Zephyr is probably 25 or more  years old and going strong so I wouldn't recommend dumping digitrax.....DaveB

yes i have contacted

yes i have contacted digitrax, months ago. they said no problem, said items have been shipped to sellers.

and yes one of the company's i have tried there name has been posted in this thread as having them in stock.

but after two months wait nothing shipped. (and after the first lied and said i canceled the order after having a two month wait from them).

i am trying to keep seller names out of this. --even the one i will never buy from cause they lied to me.--

and not knocking the digitrax products, just getting some of there items to me.

for me i believe i am heavily invested in digitrax, with two of there controllers ( dcs-51 , dcs-210 w/ hand held ).

so for me not a easy switch to go with another company. i just want things to work right.

It sounds like your problem

It sounds like your problem is with the vendor and not digitrax.  It's been my experience that most digitrax products are readily available and from numerous vendors. Maybe, instead of dropping digitrax, a new vendor is in order.

on second vendor now. and

on second vendor now. and both had good rep said about them. not cheap chinese fly-by's.

Hurricane Michael

Folks, I am not affiliated with Digitrax, but they are located in Panama City, Florida where Hurricane Michael devastated the area. I know from driving past their building, they are still in the process of getting things back in order, and I wish them luck. It is over a year later and I am still fighting with my Insurance Company to settle my claim so I can repair my home (a fairly common affliction in this area). So if there is a delay in getting product, please have a bit of patience, it may not be  the vendor, or something Digitrax can control.

Every one around here has gone NCE.

Everyone around here has gone NCE.

Me, I have gone DCC++, but then again, I am a computer guy.

And my hobby wallet is small.

my wallet is very small. and

my wallet is very small. and i try to not shoot computers.

just got off the phone with the seller, he said digitrax is still behind on his orders. now a couple days short of two months for my order with them.  (over four months total delay).

amazing how people and company's can say something that happened a year back is still a problem.

now i have never been in a "hurricane". but a year after, one would think either a company would just fold or be back up and running by now. (same building, new building, new address).

snow is on the way, what now for a excuse?  (seller is a bit north of florida).

but then the usps has this saying, neither rain, snow or glum of night will stop them..or something like that. but the governor of ca did stop the federal mail. buy just turning off the electrical power.

Wish you never experience a disaster!

Just because it happened a year ago, doesn't mean everything should be back to normal. Things take time. Insurance companies, permits, construction, inspections, I could go on. In NJ, people still haven't recovered from Hurricane Sandy (from 2012)!

Others suggested you check other vendors for Digitrax products to see what is in stock.I would do that in a heartbeat. Yankee Dabbler and Modeltrainstuff are reliable. So is Tony's Train Exchange. Did you call Digitrax and ask them which dealer they shipped the item your looking for?

I understand that you're frustrated, but this is a hobby and and it's not like you can't live without a part. Sorry to be blunt, but there are things in life that are more important than our hobby....

Short answer is yes

Any system will do what you need. I’ve found that NCE has bees super responsive and vendors all send what I need right out with tracking. Personally not a fan of all the little buttons on the Digitrax. I seldom consist but NCE makes that so easy It is worth looking at for comparison.

Both will connect to JMRI and let you use a smart phone or DIY throttles so get something to start. Anything. Not worth bothering about if it takes months of waiting.

Digitrax lost me when they

Digitrax lost me when they decided to take their "we don't sell parts to customers" mantra so far as to not being willing to send me a simple rubber keypad membrane. When I complained, I got the liability line about allowing customers to work on their own equipment and their online user group basically insulted me. All that being said, I do like the latest Zephyr update and would probably purchase one if not for the fact that I've decided to give DCC++ a whirl.

other users in your area

When I was looking for a system i talked to a lot of folks that were around Wash DC and those that attended the Timonium Train Show. One piece of advice I remember several folks offered was 'chose a system that a lot of your local users use'. Then help is not so far away. But of course in this day and age, there is lots of help online.

I talked to folks for about a year and a half when I was looking, as I was not in a hurry to get a system. I was particularly interested in 'user friendly!'. I ended up finding that there were many users who were convinced that NCE was THE SYSTEM to choose.

the closest to me that i know

the closest to me that i know of is the sacramento club, (they are dcc digitrax) and that is well over a hr away, the walnut creek club (they are and will remain dc) a bit farther (was a member there decades back). but due to my job, getting into any club is out of the question. (i work nights and weekends).

and yes this item can wait. heck have not even touched the layout in a month. and i walk past it many times a day.

no i did not ask who has received anything. but one of the shops listed above as a better place to shop, has my order.  so if they do not have it, the problem is digitrax getting stuff in from china. (not everything they sell is made in the U,S,A.).

Disasters

@Niel M - Thanks for reminding folks of how long this process can take. Aside of Hurricane Sandy in NJ, add to the list Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Florence in North Carolina. There are still folks fighting to get their insurance companies to pay their claims.

@packnrat - Some statistics on Hurricane Michael. Hurricane Michael was the fastest zero to category 5 in history. Michael had the second lowest barametric pressure in history. Michael made land fall as the fastest forward motion category 5 hurricane in history. Michael was still a category 3 hurricane in Macon, Georgia and went back into the Atlantic as a tropical storm. I am sure there are lots of folks all along Michael's path that are still fighting their insurance company.

Some local statistics. We have an estimated 1.9 BILLION dollars in tree damage. In the first 6 months there was 17 MILLION cubic yards of debris removed (and I would guess near that since). Last published number I saw was $250 MILLION dollars in clean up costs and that was a while ago.

Personally, I am looking at $150.000 in repair cost to my home  (which I am still waiting to settle with my insurance company). I am sure Digitrax experienced far worse loss considering the entire side of the building where all the electronics assembly equipment was located was damaged or torn off. No guess how much stock was destroyed. No guess how much stock and components were strewn around Bay County by 160 MPH winds as Michael blew through town.

So Packnrat, please pardon me if I don't really care if your $20.00 decoder is delayed a little.

was not asking if anybody

was not asking if anybody cared. was just asking if i should change systems. i would take a (for me) a very huge hit to change)

not that it matters but the component cost a bit more than $20.usd.

but i get your point, but sounds more like time has passed for going to court for compensation.

as i am getting different story's about availability of items. so just not sure. manf says shipped (for months now), supplier's say not in stock, but willing to take my money.

here on the left coast, biggest problem we have had in decades is the gov allowing the power company to turn off the electric, from a 1/4 to 1/2 of the state. heck even the huge deadly fires in the past five years are only locally felt. and yes one burned to within a mile of my place. yes i was packed up to bug out.  some not far from me had no chance to pack anything.

  We don't need a superman.

   We have firemen.

no earth quakes in this part of the state.

If you're in California, then

If you're in California, then think about this...

Michael did to a big chunk of Florida and Georgia what the wildfires last year did to Paradise,.

Only bigger,

MUCH bigger

A different cause, but the same level of complete annihilation, , over a  much larger area, and foundations wiped clean for many folks. Digitrax was not only lucky to still be in business, they're lucky to have a building at all.

And if you think having your power turned off to to keep fires from starting is your "biggest problem in decades,.... " you really need to re-evaluate your priorities

our power being turned off is

our power being turned off is a political move, not to keep fires from starting.

but as to what happened in a big bad storm. such news never gets to us that way. sure the faces say things. but mostly just say the same as every other face does, shows about 30 sec of video. and moves on to commentary, then a number of commercials.

so as you state such info it never gets to us. they showed a bunch of summer housing at the beach wiped out, and talk about power out but not much more. news here is more about feel good then real news. why i tend to not watch it.

as to biggest problem, is only cause it effects more than a third of this state, and the sad part is it is man made.

but two years back the butte fire, sure not the biggest. but is did effect many including myself. as i was lucky, i had a day to pack and it got to the edge of my town.  thanks to the ground crews (over 3000) and air tankers, (three 707's and a dozen water drop planes, as well as six hellos) but many had no notice and got burned trying to get out. they lost everything. the hills and ravens are extremely steep here. heck the smoke effected the county of los angles some 600 miles away.  even put them into a very bad air stay inside alert.

the big fires got all that and more + a 747 built up to be a fire plane.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/747_Supertanker

hurricanes, you get weeks notice one is on the way. (sure may not hit "your town", but you know about it.

fires maybe a day, sometimes you are lucky to get any notice.

not to say one disaster is bigger or worse than another, just the effect of it is really the same to all affected. but none is worse than the one you are in.

Yes, dump Digitrax

Their technology is stuck in 1990s and all they do is keep patching the holes, instead of re-paving the road.

Just started reconstruction...

Digitrax posted on Facebook that their builder was just able to start rebuilding their building the first week of November. So they've had a long wait themselves.

interesting as digitrax said

interesting as digitrax said six months back that they were shipping. (if i can find the notice will try to do a link to it) and as of last month they told me that they are not having any problems. other than a shortage of some component parts from china.

and the item i have already paid for has already shipped to varied retail sellers.

and the source i have been waiting on said he has sold 45 units and none to ship. times that by $75,usd. thats some cash out there.

ok so digitrax lost there building, i have know of a number of manf i have delt with and some i have not. that just moved, even to another state do to varied reasons from lost lease to new owner. to building burned down, to zoning regs changed under them. (can now add in wind damage).  so ok. they have a manf problem. then why do retailers still offer the items for sale knowing they cannot fill the orders? even up standing retailers.

i am a weird type, i would rather be told the truth. even if it hurts.  than told a lie to make me feel good.

yes there name has been said here in this thread a couple of times, i do not say the name do to not wanting to step on someones toes about there name/brand.  seeing as this thread is not about blaming or bashing anyone or company. just asking about a brand change.

i am on my own as far as running trains. sure a club in sac runs digitrax. but as i said before work hrs and distance prevents me from even trying to join any club. (not just for trains). but due to how much i have invested in controllers, i tend to want to stay with digitrax.

but then what happened to dcc, thought it was to be universal? as now people are talking about dcc++. (i have no clue as to this?) is "dcc" going the way of cassette tapes?  heck even cd's and dvd's are on there way out now.

yes i am old and slow to change.
