Hi

No track plan at the moment. I should really put something to paper. I have rough sketching of what I image it to look like, then I take those and lay out track, adjusting as I go. Getting a feel for how it will look.

On30 is on the back burner atm.

Thank you everyone for their

Thank you everyone for their kind words. I suppose a break did me good with the increased workload during the day, didn't leave me much energy at night. Now things have eased off and tasks completed. I can focus a bit more on my railroad. Modeling things that i enjoy.

This is the overall theme I'll be modeling.Nothing stressful. Colourful mix of this era Loco power. Including SP and a bit of BN Green.

Yes Joe A  SD40. I remember you mentioning a few years ago about SD40's. And I did look at quad DRGW hoppers Jim. I looked at the Arrowhead ones. very nice but works out at $79.18NZD a piece so maybe  just a few will have to do. not a whole train.

Somewhere west scenery of course. Since I enjoy that. Will include staging I think so I can run thru railing trains. As I do enjoy that part plus scenery and weathering. Main industry will be grain cement and coal. So I can do a bit of switching op's if I ever feel like doing that.

First new engine arrive SP

First new engine arrive SP SD40t-2. Only one problem with it. It's far too clean to be an SP unit

Cool!  Phil, for what it's

Cool!  Phil, for what it's worth, Exactrail informs me they will be running more D&RGW quads in the future although time frame is not given, but I'd guess we may see them in the coming year.  The Arrowhead hoppers are very nice, but it did take me some months to piece together a fleet of them and I sold some things to help pay for them.  For what it's worth, the Walthers quads are correct for D&RGW 4-bay hoppers and the Stewart of a good match for the 3-bays.

As for SP speed letter, they did look clean early on, like 1993/94 ish time frame.  If you are running later, yeah every thing on SP D&RGW was getting pretty dirty.  Choose your era.  I back dated to late 1970's when the D&RGW used wash racks and engines could be seen fairly clean at times, plus I'm not a fan of graffiti and trains don't look right to me without cabooses.  YMMV.

I have half dozen Walthers Quads, that are in CSX markings. Might strip them and re decal them.

Also swung by the hobby store and picked up a few MIG products. They seem to have a interesting selection.

Mig stuff

I use these products since a long time they are first rates products

Vallejo and Mig products have a plebicit in the army model community, knowing the quality of models this community produce this is also a certificate.

Fine Scale Modeler, one of the best magazine for this kind of modelling also say these products are first rate quality.

More track work laid. I find

More track work laid. I find it kinda relaxing for some strange reason laying track. Once completed then I will airbrush a light coat of light grey. This will be the base coat before colouring ties.

More work done. Airbrushed

More work done. Airbrushed base coat on ties  MM Light Grey. People might be thinking what the??  Trying a new method I read about. This should give me a sun bleached weather old tie look....hopefully

  • Base coat Light Grey
  • Washes of browns, blacks, greys
  • Then mix of MM Dark Drab and Gull grey for rails.

If it all turns to custard I can just Spray Can  Rustoleum Brown over

A quick question if you dont mind...

It looks like you have the mainline is on cork and the rest is going to be laid flat.  Just wondering what you are doing, if anything, to ease the transition in terms of support.

Like the build!

Thanks

Hi Steve

I'm using easements ramps. Basically cork sanded down to provide smooth change in levels.

Okay, Phil, what was

your wash mix?  The Algoma Central had a tie plant that used the osmose process, produced pressure treated green ties.  Signature of the ACR track is the interspersing of green, older green gray, black new creosote, and older gray/brown creosote ties, particularly in my era (1980).  You're getting there.

Hi Blair

I used a mix of

  • Model Master Dark Drab and Model Master Gull grey. I will need to adjust, thinking adding more of a warm tan brown colour.
