Nice

Wish I could afford to allocate that much of my hobby budget towards a throttle but I can't. Very cool toy for those of you that can though!

Thanks...

Thanks Michael! I debated for awhile the cost of the throttle as well, but as this will be the last big purchase for my layout, I finally broke down, especially after Scott from ISE explained this was the same as two locomotives which it is when it comes down to it....

I got to play with the throttle at one of the train shows Spring Creek attended, and it so reminded me of my times in the engineers seat on the prototype

Best

I maintain purchasing the PT and learning how to program the decoders are the best things I have done in model railroading. It truly has changed my enjoyment level. Welcome to the club.

Maybe someday but being  a

Maybe someday but being  a pretty dyed in the wool steam modeler now, I think if I spent that kind of money, I'd want something more appropriate for that era. In fact, I'm continuing my pursuit of that in a DIY fashion with many ideas of my own and those offered by others floating around in my crazy head. I don't so much want to duplicate the exact operation of a real steam throttle, as some on the forum want to do, as I want the looks of one. I think if I was back in my N-scale diesel days the PT would be more attractive to me for that kind of cash outlay but as cool looking as it is, I believe it would feel odd running my steamers with it.

A man and his ProtoThrottle...

...it's a beautiful thing.

Congratulations Steve!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I also purchased one of these

I also purchased one of these PTs after suggesting to the folks at ISE a couple of things to make their throttle more like the prototype. The throttle is very realistic and as I close my eyes my hands go immediately to the  reverser, throttle and brake just like when I was a engineer. This is a good product, well worth the money, especially for switching and has loads of adjustments for momentum and braking. I also know of one well known modeler who uses this throttle to run his steam locomotives.

While it might be quite an expense it was easy to save a bit over a year so I could purchase it.

I agree...

Thanks Tom and I agree!

Thanks Joe as well! I’m looking forward to getting all my locos programmed up for it and start using it for my switching layout

Barry, I agree as well, it’s well worth the money and the controls I played with right out of the box reminded me of the times I was in the engineers seat
