I was looking through the ads in MRH magazine and saw one for Athearn Genesis 2.0.  Am I behind on things, or is this a teaser for a new level of detail?  The ad says it exceeds brass detail.

Is something new out in "Genesis 2.0", or is something coming?  Anybody know?

I could easily be missing the obvious and be the only one not clued in.

You got it

You got it, think of Genesis 2.0 as being somewhere between Rivet Counter and Museum Quality to borrow ScaleTrains.com's terminology. First model coming in early 2020.

Cool!  Thanks Joe.  For me,

Cool!  Thanks Joe.  For me, detail is one of the most exciting facets of model railroading these days. Some of the buildings I also see in the ads are really outstanding with character.    I only wish I had more time to work on things.

SD90 MAC

Per the Athearn website it looks like the first “G2” release will be the SD90 MAC.  MSRP with sound decoder is $339.98

New G2 features listed include:

  • Etched, see-through walkway steps
  • Illuminated number boards
  • Illuminated ground lights
  • DCC+Sound models feature dual Sugarcube speakers for optimal sound quality

Athearn states that they are taking advantage of new manufacturer advancements.  So, “a guess”, would be details once only available when using brass, like see through walkway steps, are now available with the plastic molding process.

It looks like the 4th run of

It looks like the 4th run of SDP40F's will be Genesis 2 also.  Those are on my shopping list for the San Francisco Zephyr that I road twice as a teen.

List

Marc,

Not seeing anything on Athearn website designated as G2 or Genesis 2.0 except for the EMD SD90 and SDP40F.

“They do have new locomotives coming out that “do not” have any G2 features listed”.

Can you send a link to the list you found?
