well i have finally started to glue track down. yard lead and first layer of my helix.

trying to get it done, going slow, as this is a hobby, not a chore. triple checking as much as i can first. as i do not want to destroy and rebuild.

next week hope to work on the second layer of the helix, and finish the yard lead (waiting on one switch to get here --have a left, need a right hand or get a "S" curve in the yard lead.).

PC photos?

IrfanView is your friend!

Download it, open a photo, Ctrl-R, select a common size like 1024x768, save it with a new name. Done!

Pictures or shens!    I enjoy

Pictures or shens!

I enjoy the layout construction and track laying process, but am not fond of glue as it is not "friendly" for backing-out or undoing, which is something I have found comes in very handy.  YMMV of course.

Wake me up when there are pictures!

ctrl-r only flips the photo

ctrl-r only flips the photo to the right 90 deg,

i do not get a option for resizing to 1024X768

but "down load" it where? so far i can only open it on my screen. this web site refuses to allow a "download". says file to big.

heck my iphone can not even hold on to staying on this web site. i sign in. click to read something and i am no longer "registered as being there. have to re-sign in. at least the pc stays signed on.

as you can guess computers are not my friends.

ctrl-r in IrFanView

Are you sure you are opening up your image in IrFanView? And if so, are you sure you are holding down the ctrl-key while pressing the "r"-key? Because ctrl-R, like NCR-Boomer said, is for "Resize/Resample", while the "r"-key without any modifier keys (ctrl, alt, shift or Fn) is for the "Rotate Right (clockwise)" function...

I suspect you're...

...misunderstanding the photo upload menu.

The following tutorial is for a photo on your PC. (I've never tried to upload a photo off my phone. Can't help you there.)

Here's the first thing you do to start the photo upload process. Click the little icon (see arrow on following pic)...

Upload1a.jpg

That will open the photo upload dialogue window that looks like this:

oad2a(1).jpg

THIS is where you're likely misunderstanding. THE above picture of the initial dialogue option is for photos that reside ONLINE (on the internet, such as Photobucket, SmugMug, etc). IF you do not have your photos at such sites, you cannot upload using this screen.

Instead, I suspect your photos are on your device. (PC or phone.) For that, you need to click the UPLOAD button on the above menu. (See the highlight on the above picture. THAT is the button to click next.)

Once that tab is clicked, it will open up the window you need in order to browse your computer to locate the photo you want to upload. Here is a picture of the CORRECT window to use to upload a photo off your device:

Upload3a.jpg

You can now click the "Browse" button, and it should open the "explorer" type browsing window to your PC (Or phone? I've never tried to upload from a phone before.)

Browse to the folder and photo you want to upload, then click on the photo you select within your browser window. The screen will change to this:

oad4a(1).jpg

Then click the "Upload" button and your photo will be copied from your PC to MRH's servers.

When the transfer is completed, the final dialogue window looks like this:

Upload5a.jpg

If you change the width to 750, your photo will appear within your post once posted. (Keeping the width to 750 pixels wide keeps ALL of the photo on the viewing screen, the person reading can always click a the photo to see a larger version if it's larger than 750 pixels wide.)

IF you need to rotate the photo 90 degrees, that will need to be done while on your computer, I think.

Hopefully, the above will help get you going.

Once successfully upload a photo off your PC a few times, it becomes a routine and isn't that big of a deal.

Best of luck!

still not right, parts are

still not right, parts are cropped out. and still too big, when i tried the re-size the numbers changed in high when i tried width?

and how it got on its side?

but any how. in the photo the two tracks off the bottom the rt one is the yard switching track. the left is the main. a third still no track is a track for a industry. (assorted boxes are used for dead weight while glue drys).

the large boxes (marked fragile) are china dishes i need to sell off.

but strange other than touching the resize, could not post before? kept asking for url.

Progress!

At least now you're getting your photos to upload!

Are these photos taken with your phone?

If so, are you holding your phone so the photo is composed as a "landscape" (horizontal orientation)? Or, are you holding it so it's composed as a "portrait" (vertical orientation)?

Edit the photo on your PC

To fix the rotation problem easily, make some small edit to your photo on your PC (such as a slight sharpen) and then save the photo using a new name. That will lock in the photos upright orientation — then upload the new name version of the photo. What’s happening is the web server doesn’t see the photo orientation info from your phone like the PC does, so the photo is sideways on the web server even though it looks fine on your PC and on your phone. By doing a slight update of the photo on your PC and saving it under a new name, you remove the phone photo orientation info and lock in the orientation of the photo on your PC so it will look right on the MRH web server. Unfortunately, web servers don’t see phone photo orientation info the same as PCs do. The slight edit and saving under a new name fixes that problem.

Irfan view.  Blast from the past

Irfan view.  Blast from the past!  I haven't used it in maybe 8 years but it's a useful utility.

I use imgur now to host my photo's since Photobucket wrecked the internet and angered a bazillion users.

That doesn't work

Yes, unfortunately, that doesn't work. The webserver will still rotate it unless you deliberately SAVE the image on the PC as a new name and then upload the NEW IMAGE to the webserver.

Basically, the PC honors the phone "which way is up" directive but the webserver doesn't. By saving the picture on your PC with a new name, and then uploading that new name image, you lock in the PC's orientation on the photo for the webserver.

Test area

Note that you can “PREVIEW” your post before publishing. In fact there is no need to even “Submit” at all and you can test posts to your heart’s content.

Edit your photo

Hi,

I found it possible to go to the "my account -> file browser" page of this venue. There I found buttons for rotating and resizing images which worked fine for me in the past. Just upload it and then go back to that place?

This website has a lot of (somewhat) hidden features.

Anyway, your progress looks good, please keep us updated.

Have fun!
