I've nearly completed my benchwork for the new layout! It's been a herculean effort and taken about 3-and-a-half months to get to this point, but I'm very happy with the results. There were a few surprises along the way, (both good and bad) and I'll be sure to share my thoughts in an update video soon. Until then, after the jump is a whole mess of photos I've taken along the way:

Thanks Gang

Thanks gang, I appreciate the feedback though I'm not sure "clean" is how I'd describe my workspace.

I think they are referring to

I think they are referring to the benchwork clean of "stuff", unlike mine during construction:

Trying to form a habit

Oh yeah, well I'm trying to form a habit of keeping stuff off of the layout. Not easy to do with so much available horizontal space!

Your benchwork is looking great Jim! Can't wait to lay track myself.

Solid wood

Clear pine? Check. Hardwood plywood? Check. Solid wood bridge by door? Maybe my eyesight is not so good.

Swing gate

Jeff - it’s going to be a swing gate with access to a storage room. It’s about 5 feet by 18 inches and made from solid ply. It’s glued and screwed and reinforced to discourage warping, but heavy as heck. I’ll likely add legs on casters so that it can support it’s weight when it swings open. The gate will feature a lumber mill loading track along with other scenic details.
