One of the better feebay sellers, K4-pacific, has been selling their own line of decals. Has anyone used any of these? Any reports on applicability, quality, etc?

Thanks,

P&LE Set

I tried the P&LE set for 40' boxcars with the intent of modeling a very common 50' boxcar. The set, with some modifications, worked very well. The set did not come with the PC logo so I used one from their PC Caboose set. Logo was the correct size for the boxcar but not all of the caboose set was totally accurate. These are the only sets I have tried but heard that other sets varied in quality. I am happy with the P&LE set though.

By the way the P&LE car was modeled by starting with a Branchline boxcar, modifying the sidesills, adding 10' wide Kadee doors and then adding a Moloco roof with Plane roofwalk brackets.

I have used them also

I have done a couple sets of his.  They were printed sharp. They were pretty close size wise also for mine.  They arrived quick and he is helpful.

They are printed on Suntek paper I believe.  They slide off the instant they touch water so be ready. They also stretch a little if you are not careful positioning them. Keep the model wet and dab the water away.  They settle well with Solvaset.

Here is a picture of one I did. Stripes numbers lettering etc... everything from K4.

Great info

Thanks for the good information and for sharing your beautiful model.

I know I was surprised to see all the sets they have available. Much needed product with all the other manufacturers closing down.

They are good folks to deal with. I don't know if they sell outside feebay but my dealings with them have all been excellent.Very reliable folks!

Yes agree. I was on search N

Yes agree. I was on search N scale decals for some undecorated NYC boxcar I've sleeping on a shelf...

Microscale have nothing and CDS transfers are not ...

I can't remember how i discover it, but have order some from K4 and received by letter just 10 days later in Italy.

Not jet used, but "on desk" seams very good quality

Lot of uncommon decal setts, anyway. Good to know it exist

Penn Central caboose decals

Tom - The boxcar looks great.

I'm curious, what did I get wrong on the Penn Central caboose decals?  I worked from Morning Sun's Penn Central Color Guide book, as well as photos from other places.  Did I omit something or make something the wrong size?

At least early on, Penn Central seemed to letter their cabooses in a somewhat haphazrd manner, using numbers from various predecessor roads and logos and lettering of varying size.

Caboose Set

OK I took a closer look at the set and the only real "error" that I see is that the small PENN CENTRAL lettering is just a little too big at 104" in length versus 98".  The 98" length was measured from the PCRRHS caboose set (which is not currently in print) and this PCRRHS looks correct to me.  Small error but somewhat noticeable .

This is not a big mistake and is the K4 set is the best PC available caboose set available.  The rest of the set looks very good.

I really enjoyed working with the P&LE set and I now have four P&LE boxcars now. Three are PC/P&LE cars and one is a NYC/P&LE car.
