I saw this awesome 1973 motor home and took pics of it.

Now that would be a nice model in HO scale to add to my collection:

1976 GMC Transmode motorhome is available in HO scale

A company named BoS-Models produces it. It's kind of pricey, but here's a link to where you can get one.

Damn! that is one nice model.

Damn! that is one nice model. Too new for my 74 collection, but tempting.

Also American Excellence no longer sells/ships to Canada; long story.

GMC Motor Home

If you are going to spend the money, get the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle version.  So much more entertaining than just your ordinary run of the mill gas guzzling motor home.

HA!

The EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle!

I LOVED "Stripes"!

I have a friend, who's parents had a GMC motor home (pretty sure it was a '73) and she would tell me about how ONE DAY, she was going to convert it to look just like the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle!

Too bad they made that model

Too bad they made that model two-toned.  I believe all of them were a single color.

Pity

Also the model has the wrong driver separation, the wrong number of air vents in the hub caps, the side sills are too tall, the accent striping decals are wrong, and the luggage rack rails are missing. You'd have to replace the grill with one with narrower chrome strips. The grap irons above the engine access panels are molded on. At best it's a stand-in for an accurate model.

*sniff!*

...

I see very, Very few detail difference between the 1973 prototype and the 1976 model...

And only $33???  That's reasonable for a model vehicle nowadays!!

Thanks for reminding me warflight.

Loved that movie too.

Hmm. The EM-50 would go great with

The WWII wooden barracks kit that I saw at the last train show I went to.  It was a plastic kit, full-sized in 1/87 1/72,  was absolutely true in every respect, and had me thinking about the times I spent on fire guard or GI-ing the barracks.

Couldn't find the manufacturer's name, and the guy at that booth was strangely AWOL from the table until it was time for me to leave.   But it would be absolutely perfect to recreate the scenes from Stripes.

Ah.  Yay for the google-fu being strong today.  Turns out what I saw at the show was a kitbash of an old Marx kit that has been reissued.  For your edification, http://www.michtoy.com/item-MXR-224OD-Military_Barracks.html and other vendors.

Very Similar to the Ones I Lived In

Nice find!. Would probably need to kit bash two for a longer barracks like what I was in at Ft Knox, 1963-64 while in Basic and AIT.

Definitely need 2 Marx Reissues to kitbash a real barracks

Same thing.  I was in these at FT Devens once in 68, Knox in 71, Drum 72, Leonard Wood 79, Drum and Devens again from 80-93, and Knox again in 86. The one advantage was that after learning the layout, you didn't need lights to find your way around on any post that had them.   A lot of them didn't have the roof around the top of the first floor, at least after 79.

Not a GMC but how about a 1973 Winnebago Chieftain?

Inter-Action Enterprises makes a laser cut kit for a 1973 Winnebago Chieftain that looks pretty good to me.  I picked one up from them at Supertrain in Calgary Alberta in April, it is on my list of things to build.

Winnebago Brave

I bought this one from American Excellence and had them ship it to my hotel when I was visiting the US a couple months back.  Almost went for the GMC as well, but decided against it.

Palm Beach

When I was a kid, one of the neighbors bought a brand new Palm Beach version of the GMC. His daughter was a friend of mine and 8 of the neighborhood kids "camped out" in it in the street the first weekend they had it.

@Dave,

Nice Winnebago.

I'd order one from American Excellence, but they no longer sell to or ship to Canada. I got a friend ordering me one in Europe.

Marc,

That is one fine looking kit. Look forward to you building it.

I have a Winnebago Chieftain also

I ordered my Chieftain and received it quicker than I had expected. I haven't assembled it yet (too many irons in the fire) but I'm itching to get it together. I'm really impressed by the looks of the kit and instructions. Oh the possibilities!

Mobile layout

I'm surprised no one has suggested building a layout in an RV.  It certainly would be the way to show off your layout like the Brits do at their train shows.  Unfortunately you would probably have to park it outside.

By the way "Stripes" was filmed near Bardstown, Kentucky and used an L&N depot and a nearby distillery in the film.  The depot was featured in MR some years ago now.

With the size and price of some condos and apts today, I can see one being tempted to buy one.
