HowToBlog

MRH has implemented a feature in the blogs to enable blog writers to keep their blog entries private - only the author and the MRH admins will be able to see them.

I can hear Horace Fithers asking "Why would I want to do something like that?"

In two words: Saving and Editing

I know that sometimes I have a blog post I'd like to write but I know it's going to take a lot of time - it's a long post, has photos, and I want it to be just right. But how do I do this if I only have a limited amount of time and I'll have to log out or shut down the computer between the times I'm able to write the post? For instance you might be on a shared computer - like at a library or (quietly now....) at work.

Answer: Make the post private.

This way you can save the parts of the post you've written as private, so it's up on the server, and you can safely go off and do whatever else you need to do before coming back to complete the post.

It's also useful if you want to see what the post looks like when finished, but before showing anyone else - yes, preview is supposed to do that, but it's still not the final version.

So - here's the Make this Post Private checkbox:

My attempt did not work

As I posted elsewhere my attempt did not work. The page with the checkbox was not formated as nicely as your screen shot but I did check it before saving.

My test was posted to the world, that has now been  deleted.  Don't think I did anything wrong but I may have.

Bob. it's your blog, so you can see it always

Bob, since it's your blog, you can always see it everywhere, even if it's private.

You need to log out, then look. You will find your private blog is gone from everywhere.

That's what private means - you can still see it, but no one else can. How do you think you would be able to find it so you can edit it, if clicking private made it then disappear from even you?

Even though it's private, it shows up to YOU, the OWNER, as a sort of preview everywhere of what it will look like when it's public.

Make sense?

Huzzah!

this is the best news here since sliced bread!  From a guy who tends to be a tad long-winded and would love a chance to review my less than stellar prose, many thanks!

Duh

Yes, that makes perfect sense.  I expected to have to access it by clicking my account then editing then.

OH DOG GONE

I was hopful that after I wrote something it would never be seen or heard from again as many others here would like that about my posts too.
