Rick Sutton

Just took a look at the most recent issue and I gotta say that in my opinion this is the best (by far) issue I have seen in many a moon.

Gil Bennett's layout ........are you kidding me? The most beautiful layout I've ever seen in a publication and the entire article is the gold standard for layout visits. I'm going to be absorbing details from that for hours. Scenery and backdrop........yikes.

Jack Burgess article on the Chopper. Nuts and bolts about a really common tool that I use a lot. Thank you Jack......that's a goldmine of info.

I could go on but gotta get back to enjoying the issue.

A small note.....couldn't get the link to cowcatcher magazine in Ken Patterson's section to work.

Did I see  Pelle Soeborg and Exactrail mentioned for next month? I'm a big fan of his work. Any news on that?

Thanks, Rick

We appreciate your telling us how you feel about the issue. In fact, we always value it when anyone takes the time to tell us what they like and dislike about any of our publications and media. You’re all our fellow modelers, and without you we’d just be talking to emptiness! And yes, you read right. Next month we’re doing a layout tour and backstory interview of Pelle's layout purchased by ExactRail. That layout sailed two oceans to get from Europe to Provo, Utah! Amazing story and also an amazingly gorgeous layout. We’re also doing a TMTV segment on the layout that includes ExactRail telling us about the whole thing from when the idea hatched to acquire this layout to their plans for the layout in the days ahead.

Grading

I also think this month’s is one of the best.

I have a ?.

The rating of the articles, what does that show you? I rank everything I have been reading high here as your content selection IMO is second to none. What caused last month’s magazine to be rated as a whole 3.8. Is that just the free section or both combined? I don’t get it, to come in at that number there has be someone purposely grading very low. I have never read anything here that even ranks a 3.8 let alone the whole thing.

5+ in my realm, well done JoeF and Crew.

Issue rating

The total issue rating is a separate rating given by readers to the issue as a whole. You can see the page for the April issue here: https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh2019-04 It can sometimes be odd -- individual articles can rate quite good but the issue overall may rate lower than you might ever expect. We take all ratings with a grain of salt. They help us get some idea (and some idea is better than no idea) of what readers like, but we will also run articles we believe the hobby needs even though we expect the ratings may suck. The ratings are just one of many factors we consider when putting together a magazine, book, or video.
