On my outdoor layout I want to use double sided tape.  Scotch brand sells an exterior grade double sided tape.  Scotch is a good brand. But how long will it last? When I search for "testing or warranty information about scotch brand exterior grade double sided tape," on google or safari all i get is page after page of sellers offering to sell me some.  Is there a search engine that is not dominated by this type of result -- i.e all commercial sales?

Search

Try different wording, I found this searching for "tests of scotch double sided tape".

Also had good luck with "exterior double side tape review".

"is double sided tape waterproof?" (a google suggested search gave me this:

I think there are different ways you can use punctuation or key words to exclude words from a search, you could probably search for the format.

Sometimes adding the keyword

Sometimes adding the keyword 'review' helps. That should be a little better than "test". In addition to the negative terms Greg suggested I'd suggest these:

-buy

-cart

-shop

-checkout

Keep in mind that the first few results (maybe even the first page full) are "sponsored" results which google is getting money to show you, so they might decide to ignore your negative search terms in order to push more of their paid hits on you. Once you get past the paid hits as far as I know they honor the negative terms.

You can call me EW. Here's my blog index

have you included 'durability' in your search?

Other things I'd consider... Manufacturers spec sheets. Also, many public transit busses have ads mounted with Velcro... I think the durability can be verified for your purposes as less demanding. One reason nobody wants to list "warranty" terms for such an application is the many ways you might use it ... Durability is dependent upon exposure to UV, water, tension (wind).... So without such parameters, they really can't say. Perhaps calling 3M sales staff for recommended search terms...

3M Auto Trim tape....

3M makes the trim tape for most auto manufacturers, it is durable and used in extreme conditions, but probably won't last forever.  My suggestion is contact 3M and ask them. I sold their products for years, and they always had excellent knowledgable staff.  If neoprene trim tape can hold moldings to cars in rain, snow, and hot sun (In Buffalo, sometimes on the same day!!) it should work well outdoors.

Peace, Bill

What about going to the 3M

What about going to the 3M site,  and looking for data on their products?

Curious as to what you want to tape with it, and how long you expect it to last, after all, it's outside.

Mike.

Tape

Until users report back, no one will ever know. Not worth complaining about.

I have one brand where the backing would not peel off when I wanted to use it. I threw it away after seven years.

Isn't our new internet world

Isn't our new internet world just great,...when our government entities have allowed all these 'biggy guys' to dominate results with advertisements rather than content.

I sometimes have trouble even finding the originator's of a products website,..its so buried in middlemen ads.

I tried using BING rather then GOOGLE and that helped a little bit.
