Has anyone ever re-assembled a Caboose 204S sprung high-level stand? It's my fault it came apart but the components are all there, I think. The question is can it be put back together? (Or is it not worth the effort; buy a new one? Which I think is the easiest solution but I want to hear if anyone has an idea. The manufacturer didn't reply when I emailed a request to see if they had a schematic.)

Here's what it looks like: the base stand is on the right, the bottom bar that moves the switch on the left and just below it is the top part of the bar and the two springs that fit in between.

I can't seem to get it back together. Happy New Year to all and thanks for all your inspiring posts.

Never had that happen

   I hope it's not common as I'm using these on my new layout. Do you know what made it come apart?  I'll look at one and see if I can figure out how they go together. It might take some pressure to pop it back in, like when you snap the end adapter on the throw bar....DaveB

@DaveB

I successfully assembled five of seven that I bought. They're on the layout and working fine. One got superglue in the mechanism (oops) and is lost forever, I fear. This one just came apart while I was fiddling with the throwbar and working it back and forth, gently I thought. That main sliding bar just popped out and came apart. I'll be interested in hearing what you come up with.

I’ve re-assebled other sprung ground throws

Alex, I’ve never re-assembled one of those, but I’ve re-assembled other caboose sprung ground throws.  You need to get the springs and the spring cover thingy in place and they try to thread that assembly back in.  You need to get the lever in the appropriate position first - so study it a little to see what that is.  I bet you can do it.  Anyway, can’t hurt to try.  At the worst, one of the springs goes sproing off into the wild blue yonder and you have an even better excuse to buy a new one.

Acetone

I'm sure you know that acetone is a solvent, if you glue you fingers together with AC (super glue). Since the switch stands are made of delerin (sp?) plastic which is not soluble in acetone, you could soak the switch stand in acetone to free it up.

Regular superglues won't

Regular superglues won't stick very well to engineering plastics like Delrin. It might just peel off / break loose. If not, use solvent as suggested.

   Hi Alex,  I checked out one of mine and it looks like the pin on the small bell crank at the base of the upright is what keeps the throw bar in place. I couldn't flex mine enough to get the throw bar to pop out so maybe you got a defective switch stand. Does it look like the pin on the bottom of the bell crank is still intact? Perhaps you can snap it back in place by using a thin screw driver to flex the base a bit. I'd ask Caboose industries if they have seen this problem and see if they'll send you a replacement stand....DaveB
