Steam....

Ok - first out is some unusually heavy steam at Atherton engine terminal:pf081218.jpg

Spot the ashpan and firebox effects on 32.

Well done.

That fire is really roaring Rob. Would like to see that in person. Well done.

Thanks Dave

Thank you Dave - using image stacking (15 images) helped to enhance the firebox effect, which consists of two LEDs running at different frequencies.

simple reefers

Here are a pair or Accurail 40-ft reefers on my layout. Only thing done to then other than assembling the kits was to install metal wheel sets, Kadee #153 couplers, and apply weathering.

Here is a Mack B grain truck

Here is a Mack B grain truck that I "was" kitbashing when I backdated to modeling 1927. I gave it to Tom Johnson who will finish it and use it on his layout.

Good Lookin' Truck

That's a good looking truck, Jim.  What years would it be appropriate in?

P.S.  the reefers look good also!

Love that Mack look

Jim,

Thanks for sharing your Mack B grain truck. It brings back some wonderful memories.

My dad worked for a Mack truck dealership while I was growing up in the mid-60s and I remember the distinctive long hood, large fenders, and sloped windshield on those trucks. To a little boy those trucks were like monsters. I can remember how scary it was to go into the service area where there was always a couple Mack box cabs under repair. To get access to the engine the full box cab would tilt forward at about a 45-degree angle. It was a scary thing to walk in front of the tilted cab and imagine it coming crashing down on top of us!

Winter comes early in

Winter comes early in Michigan's UP and this off duty miner is using his free time to tune up his Skidoo. A C&NW 0-6-0 M-2 switcher is working the Newport mine in the background.

All these years we've known each other Scott, and now I learn we have something else in common!  (At least I don't remember us ever talking about it...not that that means much with the way my brain works these days.)  My dad drove Macks for at least the last 22 years of his career, from about 1966 to 1988.  As a joke, my mom once knitted a little sweater for the Mack bulldog hood ornament on his truck to wear when the weather got cold.

Fire tower standing watch

Ranger Gord ( Red Green Joke ) now has a place to work in northern Minnesota. A Twin Whistle laser kit was assembled and installed in my scenery this weekend.

Nice House Hans!

That turned out really great.  And the photo of the 1:1 makes me want to know more about who once lived there, why it was abandoned, and what's still left inside.

Light

Thanks Jim and Andre.
Both locomotives are Bachmann fitted with TCS WOW sound. The decapod is stock and the 2-8-0 has a Vanderbilt tender (also Bachmann) and a few detail modifications, firebox flicker and ashpan glow.. Both painted and weathered to get a "used" look.
This is the same scene shot form a different angle yesterday afternoon, to take advantage of some sun shining into the train room:

Let there be light, revisited

I got the gas station wired up for lights with the Woodland Scenics lighting system. I especially love it because it has a centralized control panel and dimmer switches for each structure.
I took these shots with a long exposure on a tripod, illuminated with "moonlight" from waving my cell phone screen overhead.

Bingo!

Lovely photographs of stunning scenes. Using the cell phone for the moonlight effect is the cherry on top. New technology used to make an old school scene even more special........gotta love it!

Thanks very much.

It's more old-school than that in a way, as even though it was done with a digital SLR, it was done on a tripod with a very long exposure to resolve issues with depth of field, just like how many people used to do such photos in the film era.

Stacking software? Not likely! I like doing the entire photo in one shot with no digital effects other than color balance or changing shadows/highlights.
