I told the story earlier of how I got this kit free from my LHS. What it needs is some new parts that are closer to today"s quality. The issue is that San Juan Model Co is not up and running yet. (new owners of Grandt Line) And Precision Scale also has new owners and they aren't up and running yet either. So who has HOn3 car parts, passenger and freight?02447(1).jpg

These 2 next photos date from almost 40 yrs ago. Never finished before I graduated from HS and the roof at least needs a new paint job. Thinking the a red and white body color mixed with a black roof looked really boring I went with purple. Must have been the hippy influence.0_202519.jpg

So if anybody has a source for parts I would love to know.

Thanks,   Jack

Parts...

I renovate older kits frequently, as well as convert to Hon3 from standard gauge. I have found suitable parts from: BitterCreekModels.com TichyTrainGroup.com LabelleModels.com RR

Thanks Ryan

You are a bit of a life saver. I knew about Labell, but not their greatly increased parts section. The other 2 are new for me and I gave them a good looking over and will be ordering stuff from all 3 eventually.

I came across Trout Creek Engineering last night as a source for parts. No idea about quality though.

I have some Trout Creek as yet to be assembled, seem fine quality. Glad I could assist. RR

Finished

I am declaring these 2 cars finished. They aren't perfect and are not detailed to the max. They reached the good enough stage though. Treading turn buckles on to thread or plastic line though is worse then threading a needle. The things are smaller then a flea. Thank God for magnifiers.

Look great!

Turned out great! never had much luck with turnbuckles either, but once they are on they look good.

Peace, Bill

Thanks

Thanks Bill. They are a joy  to put on. Used some jewelry line I got from my wife and made sure I had a clean cut on it. Then ya start stapping away knowing there is a hole in the thing somewhere!!
